Who are our rivals?

As members of the Charger family, what are the comparable cars out there on the road that we love to hate? Personally I see Challangers as something of an ally, but have a maligned view towards Camaro SS and Mustang GT's since getting my charger.

Do ya'll feel the same way or is this the most retarded thread ever?

Rival for what? What is the contest and what is the prize? You can't have a rival unless there is a goal that you and they are trying to win

For me, I don't look at other performance cars as "Rivals".

I look at them as performance machines of a different type. I appreciate them for what they are and can do.

I just love my car for what it is and what it means to me.

The road isn't a contest or battlefield...it's a place that I drive my car.

The marketplace is a different story. To gain or hold market share, you do have rivals to contend with in the pursuit of the consumer's money and must separate your offering from the others in order to survive. That is a contest and the prize is sales revenue.

Camaros and Mustangs for sure.

Many (not all) Challengers seem to think they are all that over the Charger... Yet I see the Challenger the same way as you.

Imports are dicey, as they go to great lengths to show how big they think theirs is.

I love the taste of STi

Most of the Camaros and Mustangs seem to have a bit of respect for our cars. Brothers from another Mother.

I agree that Challenger drivers think they have something better. I like the Challenger, and I see them as allies. I also think that the new chargers (with a spoiler) look better than Challengers. Mustang and Camaro (and minivan :dunno:) guys always want to race despite having smaller cars. I don't think the Charger (R/T and below) has any real rivals for sales due to the RWD, 4-door-muscle distinction. Though I will say that if I was single, I'd be driving a Challenger.

I hate mustangs! Otherwise i agree with Jonny, dang ricers, quit getting too close to me on the highway!

Insurance companies

Gas moguls

Bank accounts

Cops who think 41 in a 40 while driving a charger is speeding

Any guy with a girl in his car trying to save face

Did I miss any?

Anyone that isnt with us, is against us!

For some reason I've developed a particular disdain for Camaros. I feel like they don't have respect for us...and I hate that their engines are bigger, and that the ZL1 > SRT8

The V6s Chargers:

Chevy Impala
Ford Taurus
Hyundai Sonata
Toyota Camry
Toyota Avalon
Honda Accord

The hemis:

Taurus SHO
Chevy SS
Hyundai 5.0 R Spec

Not seeing the Mustang or Camaro - those are for the Challenger

Maybe I've been spoiled with better performing cars, but I am not all that competitive with this car. I realize that numerous cars on the road are as fast if not faster in stock form.

With that said, I traded out my 2012 Mustang GT (5.0) for this. I did so for the room, and for a change.

I sure do miss that power and acceleration of the 5.0 though.

It may be an illusion, but this car just doesn't feel all that fast. But again maybe it is the "feel" of it because of the overall size.

2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 0-60 mph 4.5 Quarter Mile 13.0
2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 0-60 mph 4.5 Quarter Mile 12.9

No data for 2012.. but I'd assume they are similar.

2011 Dodge Charger R/T 0-60 mph 5.2 Quarter Mile 13.7
2011 Dodge Charger Mopar 11 0-60 mph 4.6 (3.91 gears)

I know this isn't exactly perfect but this is a reference.. and your mustang was/is faster than the charger.

Yea, I can't imagine why you would even compare a 3rd gen 5.7 to a 5.0

The 5.0 and 392 are the 2 car's that you can compare for similar times.

13.0 sounds WAY slow for a 5.0(12.5-6) is the norm

I respect most cars. The majority of the American cars I like, most of the German cars I like, and there are some Asian cars I like too. I do not have respect for most Hondas, WRXs, STi's, etc. Most people that drive them are a-holes and think they're hot sh*t because they're driving something that could potentially be fast, but isn't.

There are a few cars out there that haven't been mentioned yet...

Pontiac G8 is a perfect comparison...
Pontiac GTO as well is another good "rival"
BMW M3s
Nissan Maxima is good rival for the V6 Chargers
Nissan 350/370Z
Hyundai Genesis 3.8 and 5.0 R-spec
SRT-4 (I know, it's one of ours.. But it could still make for a good race).
Obviously Mustangs and Camaros like everyone else so far has said.
Mitsubishi Evolution
and any other cars of these kinds of classes that have a pretty powerful engine under the hood.

I
Pontiac G8 is a perfect comparison...
.

I previously owned a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. It felt noticably faster than my R/T. I never tracked it, but It "felt" faster for sure. I bet it would probably be fairly close at the track (stock vs stock) But I'd give the edge to the G8 GT.

Just to get it out there (so when I say I've owned something, it won't seem like I am just saying it because it fits the conversation) Here is a list of my past cars in order.

82 Mercury Lynx
86 Chevy Celebrity
98 Chevy Malibu
00 Hyundai Tiburon
01 Hyundai XG300L
00 Pontiac Sunfire GT
04 Nissan Sentra SER- specV
04 Nissan Frontier XE 4x4
05 Hyundai XG350L
***04 Yamaha YZF-R6***
00 Toyota MR2 Spyer (aftermarket turbo'd)
02 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
04 Nissan Titan LE 4x4
09 Pontiac G8 GT
09 Hummer H3T (had this for less than 3 months)
08 Mustang GT
12 Mustang GT (5.0)
13 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona

wife's/ family: (since we've been married)
91 Nissan Maxima
99 Jeep Grand Cherokee
08 Ford Edge SEL
10 Ford Flex Limited
11 Ford F150 SVT Raptor (Had this for less than 3 months as well) I LOVED this thing though!

Well my ride got made fun of today for not being standard. Apparently that's a deal breaker in the eyes of some of my friends. So, I guess I'll have to add their cars to my rivals list:

Mini Cooper s
Mazda3
Volkswagon GTI
WRX

Who cares we bought our cars for the size and comfort with the touch of speed and performance feel. I had all but bought that 2014 5.0 but just happen to slide by my local Dodge dealership and there she was, there really was no denying it she was sexy as hell and plenty fast enough to get me in trouble. But it had 10 times the comfort, room and options the full on 5.0 had and a price that just couldn't be beat!! I love this thing so let them waste their gas beating me at runs I'll have fun doing it along with a cool butt with my cooled seats........

Here is a list of the vehicles that most commonly seem to want a piece of me (I SWEAR these are all true):

- Nissan Altima
- Ford Ranger
- Any minivan with a soccer mom/dad driving
- Volkswagen Jetta TDI
- The lifted/chipped/Cletused-out diesel pickups with window decals saying "mind if I smoke?"

What these people are thinking, I have no idea.

Any new "PERFORMANCE VEHICLE" I have respect for, as long as it's ALL AMERICAN! Yes we have rivals and that's good. Competition is good for the market.
It's good to see that people still love performance, whether it be Dodge, Ford, Chevy, etc.
Always remember have respect for your Charger as others have respect for theirs..:rocker:

It's a legal lane and if I can merge without cutting someone off I need to be hated on?

If I poke along and just merge over cutting of several cars and cause the whole line to jam on their brakes, sure bring on the hate.

"Yeah, I drive a 2500 pound manual hatchback with plastic seats and 12 inches of leg room, but I can pull 0-60 in 4.7 seconds so I'm a boss"

-WRX drivers

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest

Now don't hold back. Don't mix words, let it out....

:bigthumb: I agree. I don't care how fast they are, IMO you couldn't give me one.

Hmmm,

For some reason I get a lot of attention from ricers. Usually with a flying spoiler, neon lighting, and pipe mods about 12 inches in diameter. No, thanks, don't care about your car! Fun to beat them though. Don't know what they are thinking.

I love the Mustang and the Camaro. But I do a lot of long-haul driving and they are just not cut out for that. My neighbor races autocross with his Mustang, but won't drive it otherwise. He gets cramps, so he drives the Corvette. He keeps talking to me about getting a Charger SRT8. (Hate those guys with money for toys)

I actually feel kindred to the whole Modern American Muscle genre because they honor the history and are creative in the implementation. So thumbs up to all my fellow drivers of American iron. Looking at the truly comparable full-size 4-door sedans, the Charger doesn't really have any rivals with respect to the mix of style and power, but Dodge will have to keep it up to stay competitive.

A lot of talk about short speed but I am happy to sacrifice a little of that to drive a well-powered 4100 lb car that looks better. With a V6 hauling that much weight plus me and a few cheeseburgers, I'm not about to take on "challengers " but the roll-on power is nice and that is where I end up using it most often.

As a highway car, which to me is a major part of the American driving experience, the Charger is hard to beat. It's a great cruiser that also handles well. I just did some highway driving through the mountains east of Santa Barbara and I can say this car handles that with confidence. Great breaking and steering. Even though you can feel the weight, it doesn't feel loose, even with three people and stuffed with college move-in gear. I love my car.

I read on the forums they will be special order only, and in very limited quantities. Price wise ($45K plus) makes it a rival to the SRT8. The SRT8 will have more power though.

I hadn't been aware of the SS until now. Darned Chevy and their super 400+ hp 6.2L engines. I generally consider cars like

Camaro SS
Chevy SS
Pontiac G8
Nissan 370z

to be somewhere in between a Charger R/T and an SRT8.

Nothing with fewer than 4 doors is a rival for a Charger. So, rivals are Mercedes and BMW. OK, older Impala SS or Caprice 9C1. But not Crown Victoria, because they're just too slow (but cool.)
