Hmmm,
For some reason I get a lot of attention from ricers. Usually with a flying spoiler, neon lighting, and pipe mods about 12 inches in diameter. No, thanks, don't care about your car! Fun to beat them though. Don't know what they are thinking.
I love the Mustang and the Camaro. But I do a lot of long-haul driving and they are just not cut out for that. My neighbor races autocross with his Mustang, but won't drive it otherwise. He gets cramps, so he drives the Corvette. He keeps talking to me about getting a Charger SRT8. (Hate those guys with money for toys)
I actually feel kindred to the whole Modern American Muscle genre because they honor the history and are creative in the implementation. So thumbs up to all my fellow drivers of American iron. Looking at the truly comparable full-size 4-door sedans, the Charger doesn't really have any rivals with respect to the mix of style and power, but Dodge will have to keep it up to stay competitive.
A lot of talk about short speed but I am happy to sacrifice a little of that to drive a well-powered 4100 lb car that looks better. With a V6 hauling that much weight plus me and a few cheeseburgers, I'm not about to take on "challengers " but the roll-on power is nice and that is where I end up using it most often.
As a highway car, which to me is a major part of the American driving experience, the Charger is hard to beat. It's a great cruiser that also handles well. I just did some highway driving through the mountains east of Santa Barbara and I can say this car handles that with confidence. Great breaking and steering. Even though you can feel the weight, it doesn't feel loose, even with three people and stuffed with college move-in gear. I love my car.
