thanks!:rocker:

why the world would you run dino in winter and normal in summer? Just take them your oil and have them put it in.
0-30 for 6.1
and 5-20 for 5.7

buy your brand of oil and you can have your dealer change it, there only charge you for 20 min. labor. I know a member who does this the dealer only chargers them like $8. For that matter you can have anyone do it, even an at a gas staion that has oil change bays and that do smog testing. they shouldnt charge more then $10 if you bring your oil and filter. Switching back and forth between synthetic and conventional will **** up your motor and cause sludge build up.

I would strongly suggest against switching back and forth. My understanding has always been once you go synthetic, you can never go back...

Another Urban Legend!

Switch oils back and forth between dino and syn at will. Just make sure it gets changed on a regular basis. Better yet, change it yourself, that way you'll know it was actually changed and changed right.

Thanks for the clarification.

Regular changing has always been my rule of thumb - more important than the brand of oil or filter or dino vs. syn.

No issues and no reason to so. But if you want to switch back and forth you can

I THINK that used to be true when they first started making syn. Which is why they started making syn blend for us motorcycle guys. But that was a long time ago.

The only problem was some seals had issues where they would swell from dino oil and then if you started using syn, they would leak. That issue was fixed in the 70's :) But the urban legends live on!

synthetic is a controlled molecule size and theoretically lower friction. Tend to be a constant thickness through a greater temperature range. Advertised to go much longer between oil changes.

And synthetic usually has a really cool graphic design on the label!! Which is why I use it.

Admit it, how can anyone avoid anything so beguiling that the word "SYN" is right in its name.. or is that "SIN" ? :biggrinjester:

Seriously, though, what sold me was the points PD explained. I like to think that my oilpan isn't filled with molasses when I turn the key in 5 degrees F.

Which raises another curiosity..........if they can make oil by combining numerous synthetic materials, what's stopping them from doing the same thing and making gasoline? I'm no chemist, but isn't it just strands of molecules?

PD could probably answer more specifically, but in our fire department training, we have learned that gaoline is synthesized and is actually more alcohol than gasoline.

But I just got what you were asking... why can't they just make synthetic gasoline to relieve our dependence on foreign oil.

My guess to that would be that it's cost-prohibitive. Consider that we're most likely among the minority willing to spend the extra $$$ on synthetic oil. Why would someone drop a few extra bucks per gallon on synthetic gasoline when regular gasoline works just as well.

I bring my own oil to the dealer and have them change it. But i bring my own cause they use the regular mobil 1 synth i like to use the extended performance.. The regular mobil 1 syn breaks down really fast. the extended performance lasts a long time if you wanted you could got 8k miles on it but I still only go like 2500-3k miles. On my old 4 banger turbo cars I would always change the oil at like 2-2500k miles and if i raced it a lot even more often. Turbos like to eat up oil cause they get super hot.

this is my first non turbo car Kinda like the V8 (and RWD) always had AWD
