Anyone else out there bothered by idiots wanting to race?

Okay, so I've only owned my Charger for a little over a month now. I love cruising the neighborhood and Bay Area with all of it's extra power. There's only one problem...I wasn't warned about the massive group of guys out there who think that they have something to prove by wanting to show just how much faster their Honda Civic is.

The worst was the day after Christmas...I pull up behind a Toyota Camry at a stop light in the middle of a 3 lane road. He's poking along, so I signal, try to go around and he speeds up and cuts in front of me. He would NOT let me pass him and if I backed off, he'd slow down too. This lasted for half a mile, he pulled into the right lane, then at the last minute before an intersection, cut across all lanes, right in front of me into a left turn lane, and thankfully out of my life. (If I was 20 years younger I woulda chased the butthead down.)

I've had similar experiences with guys on the freeway who just won't let me pass them, or they'll speed up when they see my car and cut in front of me. I've nothing to prove and I don't provoke anyone nor do I drive like an old woman.

Like I said, most of these idiots are in ricers, but I've also run into a couple of Magnum guys who had a little too much testosterone in their morning cereal.

Is it just me or does anyone else get the same treatment? Or are you an offender? I'd like to hear from the other side too!

Yeah, I gotta agree w/ ChargerTrev - a Daytona may as well be a sign saying "who wants to run?"

At the same time, I had more people pull alongside me when I had the plain jane inferno red R/T w/ R&T. I think I had the car for about 3 days when a carload of kids pulled up beside me in a 90's Dodge Spirit and started standing on the brake and mashing the gas. When the light turned green, I let them go and pulled out real nice and slow. We met at the next light and they started doing it again - evidently very persistent or didn't catch that I wasn't out to race them. :slap:

All the time. And it's never cars that could give me a run for the money. Mostly cars who have fart cans....like I am supposed to be impressed or something. I laugh. They get mad. Oh well. :alfdance:

Get used to it, flashy colors will bring much unwanted attention, like it or not. You're like the bright orange (nemo/clown) fish in the sea, and everyone around you is jealous. I'm pretty sure we're all tired of the four bangers with the coffee can mufflers. It really is a complete waste of time proving anything to them, and they'll just keep going at it.

I've had a few ricers try and act all tough and I just ignore them all. I figure if they are that dumb...

What gets me are the Ram owners with Hemi's that want to race me. I don't know what they think they have to prove, but I'm certain that I can outrun them; I just choose not to drive like a fool.

I've never actually had the problem of people trying to block my way in traffic, but rather the opposite, I've had people move out of the way when behind them. As for those that want to race, I've never actually noticed, I just keep looking forward when they pull up beside me. When they see that I won't acknowledge them, they usually just move on.

All the friggin time, from several of the 9 million WSR's up here to a freak in a sublime civic!?! Sometimes I go, sometimes I laugh it off, depends on the day and my State Trooper spidey senses.. :beer_yum:

Part of the fun in owning a Daytona. Now add a louder exhaust and it only gets worse, sometimes you do though just need to stand on it and put them in their spot

Hmmm, I honestly don't think I've ever been noticed in my Silver Steel.

Yeah pick up trucks usually mess with me more than anything....probally because right now im driving a kia spectra with a huge "TAPOUT* window sticker. The only think about is if they wernt in those huge pick up trucks they wouldnt think about messing with me....i'm alittle crazy if pissed off.

Guys in pick up truck think they can own the road.....when I get the SRT8 I better not get the same crap or else....i'll open up that HEMI. Sounds like i'm in for some more pick up trucks even in the HEMI. Sucks that one day I might follow one of these dude home...

I get this a lot around here. Most cars are not even worth a second look. I'm not braging because they are the cars that even the people driving them know, they aren't serious. They just want to rev them up to get your attention. I live on a busy road and when I have the car in the driveway and I'm washing I get people reving up as they go by. I have had people rev up when the car is in the driveway and I'm in the house.

There are a couple of Tiburons, a Titan, a SS HHR, and various fast and furious wannabes around here that step up from time to time. I don't have the badest car around, but can make quick work of these guys and not even try that hard.

I really don't get a lot of challenges in my R/T, although I did notice a few more when I put my new rims on. It's mostly mustangs and civics with really big mufflers. I ignore most of them, I can't afford the tickets that might go along with showing them what the HEMI can do.

Oddly enough I got a lot more challenges in my old '96 Cougar.

I've had my Charger for over a year and a half and I've only had 3 people try to "race" me, and no one in the last year or so.

The first two morons I didn't even have to exceed the speed limit or change my driving style to leave them behind, so I don't really consider it a "race", and the third one I just sat at the light and counted to three after it turned green and let him race by himself.

Cars, fuel, and insurance are all expensive up here. It's rare I ever see a car that has the potential to beat me, but I wouldn't race anyone anyway. Not worth it up here; they impound your car and suspend your license on the spot. No day in court, no lawyers; Roadside Justice.

I don't wanna be the guy that races a Honda Civic and wins, then is left standing on the side of the road while they tow my car away...

yeah best thing you can do is either just stay looking straight and ignore them, or just look at them; take a second to recognize what theyre driving, then laugh which always seems to piss em off.

in my area, anytime i even accelerate a little hard, people think im trying to race, and usually if theres some open road and i know theres no cops, ill put em in their place as hard, as fast and as long as i have to.

its mostly ricers around here with the coffee cans on the back, every now and again i see a Evo or something that can actually go 100+mph without exploding. I definitely know what you're talking about though, i ride with my dad in his supercharged F150, or my grandmother in her Cadillac Eldorado and people even try to race them, but the f150 has the 2 tone paint job, so the flashiness and Supercharged badge probably does provoke.

I don't have that problem.

Not many people wanna risk passing you when your tag reads "TROOPER"

And plenty of people will move out of the way, when they see my tag in their rear view mirror ;)

For those that don't know "The Trooper" is a record by Iron Maiden, I'm not a cop. lol
