Uconnect... worth using?

Just bought a charger that came with Uconnect.

Is it worth changing my phone for a bluetooth to use this? How's the sound? Will I have to yell so people hear me clearly?

And about phones. Anyone has recommandations for a model that works flawlessly with the uconnect... and some you don't recommend, thanks.

My system is great and I deliberately got a bluetooth handset for use in the car. It really is a great piece of kit! :D

I have used three different Bluetooth phones with my u-connect, all work great. After using the u-connect for a while, I will never own another vehicle without this type of feature.

so you all love how it sounds, no one complained to you that it feels like the phone is 10 feet away from you? Because, I hate when people talk to you in their cars and you have so much echo and noise, you don't hear anything.

I do have to speak up sometimes, but the conversations are still possible. My wife does complain when I go WOT, as this is a bit loud over the cell connections......

I spent the money to INSTALL the factory version in my car. I was using a blue tooth ear piece before and would miss calls due to the volume level of the stereo. I never miss a call, know who it is at a glance from the radio display and simply talk normal. I use a Motorola razr and it is just fine.

I press a button on my cell to transfer back, I have never tried just walking away from the car.

It is nice to have, but there are some problems with it...

1) People I call say I sound terrible when I'm using the bluetooth.

2) If I want to take or make a call on my headset instead of letting the u-connect do its thing, its a pain in the ass to decouple the two. I have to either wait for the call to connect, then ask the person I'm talking to to bear with me while I push the button and direct the u-connect to transfer the call to my headset only, or go into my phone and disable the bluetooth connection.

3) The voice commands are painfully slow. I have a friend with an M45 who can string a whole call command, like "Call John at home", whereas I have to say "Call" then wait for the system to respond before I can say "John", and so on. I usually wind up using my cell phone's speed dial, so whats the point?

Overall I guess I'm glad I got it, but its not perfect.

Didn't think I would use it!

Well when we got the new phone it was simple. Motorola Razr and once we mated the phone to the car, whenever you start the car and phone is within a few feet of the car it works. The only beef is you will have to make a phone book for the car. It isn't tranferable, or I haven't found that option yet.

I love it and use it often. I like the fact that when you call up a business from NAV, you have the option of calling them through the Uconnect without touching your handset. I have never heard complaints about the voice quality. However, anyone not sitting in the driver seat is not as easily understood. My kids like talking to their mother from the back seat, and thought I can hear it clearly, the microphone has trouble picking them up unless they yell pretty good.

Overall, a great system. Perhaps there are better, but this is my first experience with something like this...

IMHO

I installed the factory u-connect, and also recently bought a headset..... I kinda prefer the headset... and it cost me $25 off ebay compared to the $350 it cost me to install u-connect....

it is nice though being able to hit a button to dial numbers right off the Nav....

The only complaints with mine are I can't use the phone's phonebook (V330) - If I do, there is like a 10 second lag between when my party picks up and I can hear and speak to them - most hang up.

It is also a pain that you can't have a private conversation without a lot of trouble.

It also shuts down all other audio sources (accept the rear seat VES still works through the wireless headphones). So if you are driving home and want to listen to traffic and speak to someone at the same time, forget about it.

BTW: You do not have to wait for the voice prompts, you can press the "other" button on the mirror and start talking. I also do not put more than 1 entry/person. If it is just one, you don't have the extra step of specifying home/work/mobile, etc.

The other annoying thing is that any time it doesn't understand you it thinks you asked to change to French (at least with me).

95% a great product however!

When I was first setting mine up it kept saying "I think you said Espanol, would you like to change the language?" My daughter and I could not stop laughing.

I use it sometimes but when daughter is with me, she would rather listen to the radio so no bluetooth then...

I love it, just not sure how to have a private conversation with it (i.e. is there any way to "mute" it and still use your handset?)

Follow the link I gave a few posts up before the hijack.

even though it seems 95% great, I'll try it anyway. The troubles with the voice-activated thing seem endless and I'm sure I'll have fun discovering them also. If the thing starts speaking french to me, I don't care, I'm from Quebec, I can speak french.
I'll win over that machine :)

Funny you should say that. I've had it change to Spanish a couple of times just by giving a wrong command!

I actually perfer using my bluetooth ear-piece instead of trying to hold the cell phone in one hand and drive with the other.

I love uconnect. Wife and I both have our phones linked. Funny thing, once she was following me in the Tahoe and made a call, her phone was still connected and we were close enough that her phone connected and conversation came thru the charger speakers. It's totally secure but she just didn't disconnect before we swapped cars.

I ordered the UConnect with the car from the factory, use it with a RAZR, and wouldn't want to be without it!!
