Just did the math and it turns out these 2 sizes are almost identical in overall height making for another great stagger set-up ... 255/45R20 front / 285/40R20 rear ... anybody already running this combo and if yes, please post some pics

285/40 is not such a common size. There are a lot of people putting 275/40/20s on the back and 255/45/20s on the front. Toyo Proxes seem to be a good tire in this size. I really wish they made more Z-rated tires on our size. I am not a big fan of driving with SUV tires on my car, nor do I want a tire that is not W or Z rated for speed. The Falken 452s are Z rated, but you would put 255's all around (they don't yet have 275's or 285's in our size). Good luck.

Weird looking tire. Not my cup of tea.
I am not sold on the Nitto either (maybe not bad, just different). I know the 275's are within specs for 9 in wheel. I suspect the 285's may be slightly wider than recommended for a 9 in. wheel. FWIW

Well...

Hmm, very cool.

I use this handy webpage to play with tire sizes try it out...

Tire Size Compare and Calculator

I would like to have a little fatter front but larger yet in the back. As other mention, I wonder how well those tires perform.

Even though I find the Nitto and some other tire tread patterns "distracting" I could care less so long as it sticks!

Please note the 420 has significantly lower dry traction than the INVO, and the 285 is suggesting 9.5" as rim min width.

Also, you can get the INVO up to 275/40-20 and that is a great tire.

Both the INVO and the 420 are classed as Ultra High Performance by Nitto /shrug

285/45 R22 ??????

Those are 32" tall tires !!

No, that size won't fit

The car pictured in that thread with the 20's in the front and the 22's in the rear looks horrible in my opinion ... the front tires and rims look tiny and the front of the car looks way too low, like it's waiting to hit everything in front of it ...

The topic of this thread was staggered 20's not 20/22 ....

Hey guys just put the nitto inzo 245/4520 front 2754020 rear on stock srt8 wheels looks good not to much tire the 2554520 are about a half inch taller doesnt seem like alot but it is the car rides so much better than the gy also i had the steal showing on my rears hey i got 6500 miles on them

According to this conversion chart , the height difference is near non-exist between the 245/45 and 275/40. But considering the 275/40 is replacing the 255/40, the speedo is off slightly, 60 mph will record 60.7 and will add about 640 extra miles to the odometer after 50,000 miles.

I am looking to install a set of all seasons on my car and am in a quandary.

If he ever takes pics of his ride, I hooked HemiPowered5700 up with some 255/45/20 fronts and 285/40/20 rears in the Nitto 420s tires a few weeks ago. However, you guys need to note that when you are talking about running staggered tire setup, you have to specify if you're running staggered wheels as well. HemiPowered has 20 x 8.5 all the way around and staggered just the tire sizes to give the rears a bit more meat in the back. However, I have staggered wheels in addition to staggered tires, so you cant judge sidewalls the same if they are going on different wheel widths. Just an FYI.

If he ever gets some pics together, Ill see to it that he posts them here because hes running the exact tire setup that was originally asked about.

Just talked to him, ace still has not taken any pictures of his car with the wheels on. He ran them for a little bit before winter rolled around, but once it did, like me he took them off and put em away for storage over the winter. The salt gets pretty bad out here in Chicago. As soon as nice whether rolls around, Ill see to it that pics are posted on this thread, u have my word!

Are those proxes directional. Can you rotate side to side without taking them off the rims and remounting?

I like how they dont' stick outside the fender well, looks good.

Did you notice any difference in handling or traction?

Handling and traction seem to be on par with the GY's, but they are smoother and quieter than the GY's/
Yes, they are directional. My staggered setup =no rotation

here is the 245/45 front with the 285/40 rear in the nitto 420....... my rear wheels are 10 1/2" custom widened stock srt wheels.

I narrowed it down to a Staggered Setup and I want to run it by the forum before I buy:

Front: 20x8.5 Offset: 18 5x115 245/40/20
Rear: 20x9.5 Offset: 18 5x115 275/35/20

The rear wheel/tire will sit 16mm closer to the brake/suspension compnents and stick out 24mm more than stock (18x7.5 235/55/18). Anyone know if this will stick beyond my fender, flush, or leave me with clearance?

I cant answer your offset questions as that is out of my realm of knowledge, but as far as your tire suggestions go, I would not go with those sizes..... unless of course you ahve the car lowered significantly. All the Chargers that come stock with 20" wheels are running a 245/45/20 tire on them, and that amount of meat just looks right. You can always run a little bit more, but I think going much less than that leaves you with too much of a gap from tire to fender and looks a little goofy if you ask me. Liek I said, if its lowered though, wont look weird at all. But at stock drive height, just looks like the tire is way too small.

I would up your aspect ratio in each of those sizes by 5, thereby leaving you with a 245/45/20 in the front, and a 275/40/20 in the back. I think you will be much happier with the amount of meat and wheel well coverage those sizes provide you with.

Just my opinion though!

I WAS a little concerned with having less than 4" of sidewall. I might take your advice on the bigger tires. My Charger is at stock height. I've considered lowering it numerous times, but both airbags or springs require that I replace the self-leveling rear shocks first, which I haven't got around to doing yet. Thanks for the advice.
I'm still concerned with the overall width of the rear tire. Using your suggested tire size of 275/40/20, that puts the rear at 20mm closer than stock to components, and it sticks out 20mm more than stock. I don't want to have fender issuess. Hopefully someone can shed the light on this setup for me.

I'm running proxies 4 all around
245/45/20 front
275/40/20 rear.
my rims are 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear.
They feel good, on stock suspensions on an 06 r/t with the road and track package.
I've considered going for wider tires but my 275s get close enough to the wheel well turning off of drive ways.

I used to run hankooks in the rear but they just never seemed to have grip as good as these proxies.
I had also run some nittos on the front but same deal... on hard turns they tended to slide a bit.
