Just did the math and it turns out these 2 sizes are almost identical in overall height making for another great stagger set-up ... 255/45R20 front / 285/40R20 rear ... anybody already running this combo and if yes, please post some pics

285/40 is not such a common size. There are a lot of people putting 275/40/20s on the back and 255/45/20s on the front. Toyo Proxes seem to be a good tire in this size. I really wish they made more Z-rated tires on our size. I am not a big fan of driving with SUV tires on my car, nor do I want a tire that is not W or Z rated for speed. The Falken 452s are Z rated, but you would put 255's all around (they don't yet have 275's or 285's in our size). Good luck.

Weird looking tire. Not my cup of tea.
I am not sold on the Nitto either (maybe not bad, just different). I know the 275's are within specs for 9 in wheel. I suspect the 285's may be slightly wider than recommended for a 9 in. wheel. FWIW

Well...

Hmm, very cool.

I use this handy webpage to play with tire sizes try it out...

Tire Size Compare and Calculator

I would like to have a little fatter front but larger yet in the back. As other mention, I wonder how well those tires perform.

Even though I find the Nitto and some other tire tread patterns "distracting" I could care less so long as it sticks!

Please note the 420 has significantly lower dry traction than the INVO, and the 285 is suggesting 9.5" as rim min width.

Also, you can get the INVO up to 275/40-20 and that is a great tire.

Both the INVO and the 420 are classed as Ultra High Performance by Nitto /shrug

If you didn't mind the added weight of run-flats, you could run the Grand Cherokee SRT8 tires. They're Goodyear RSA's in the same 255/45 and 285/40 sizes.

How about a 245/45 R20 front and 285/45 R22 rear in the Nitto's?? Will the 285's fit? And I have a tuner to adjust the tire diameter.

285/45 R22 ??????

Those are 32" tall tires !!

No, that size won't fit

That one Toyo Proxes comes in thousands of sizes. It is actually an SUV tire but I see it on lots of Chrysler 300's. Looks good and not like a truck tire.

Yes they are. Crazy tall.
32.09 in. Four inches taller than stock.
Stock 28.17 in.
The 255/45 is 29.03 - one inch more.
The 255/40 is 28.03 a mere fraction if an inch less.

I really want to do a 20 & 22 on the car but it's hard to find a tire company that makes a 20 & 22 and has the sizes I need/want.

255/40 R20 Dia.-28.03 in. Sidewall-4.01
275/40 R22 Dia.-30.66 in. Sidewall-4.33
265/40 R22 Dia.-30.34 in. Sidewall-4.17
This is close but I don't want the rear side wall smaller than the front
285/35 R22 Dia.-29.85 in. Sidewall-3.92

The problem is, you won't be able to go with a 40 series tire on a 20" wheel in front, and a have the same height side sidewall with 22 inch wheel in the rear. The best you might be able to do is go with a 265/35/22 rear and a 245/40/20 up front to keep the side wall close to the same size, and actually have a tire that is going to fit. But then you run into the problem of your front wheel looking extremely small, and the rear extremely tall. A 2" height difference looks huge on the car.
Maybe someone make a 245/40/21 for the front, and the 265/35/22 for the rear. The 21" wheels seem to be very expensive if you can find one.

Finding a wheel that I liked and that was made in a 20 & 22 was a b*tch. Your right about the 245/40 and thats why I don't want to go that route, it's a smaller diameter than stock. One very easy way to get the sidewalls the same is not stagger them......245/45 R20 - 245/45 R22. But if I'm spending a lot of dough I want some meat in the back!

The car pictured in that thread with the 20's in the front and the 22's in the rear looks horrible in my opinion ... the front tires and rims look tiny and the front of the car looks way too low, like it's waiting to hit everything in front of it ...

The topic of this thread was staggered 20's not 20/22 ....

How about the Goodyear RSA's off of the Grand Cherokee SRT8? They're runflats, but are the same 255/45-285/40 combo...
