Mobil1 worth the extra cost?

Last weekend decided to finally take the jump and switch to Mobile1 Synthetic (5w20) at 4000 miles. It seems that I'm getting about 1 mpg more. I plan on changing oil at 5000 mile intervals(with filter). Are those of you that changed to moble1 satisfied with the change and feel it's worth the additional cost? The Mobile change with filter was about $57.00 at my car wash.

I got irritated at my local dealer last Sat (got there at 7:45am for a Mopar oil change)...hardly any customers there...they take my car in the shop...it sat there for 1 hour without any tech touching it...I got mad...said please get my Charger out of the shop I'm leaving...so much for customer service.

I think it is, although a top brand 'dino' oil will be just as good for non-race applications. I'm doing 5K changes as well with M1. If you are going to keep the car for life, than I think it's a very good investment. If not, you'll hopefully be setting up a good engine for the next owner. You will save a small amount of fuel, but I don't know that you will make the extra cost back on the M1 IMHO.

Thank you for replying. Actually for me it may be a little cheaper since I've always changed oil/filter at 2000 miles (old school I guess). Are you aware of any problems if you change back to regular dino after synthetic?

Not that I'm aware of. You might find there's a little bit of a mix due to synth still being in the crank and hidden in other engine recesses, but the large amount of dino oil should make that almost miniscule. By the next change it will pretty much be solely dino oil. I wouldn't mix the two together in equal quantities tho! :D

Well - if' it's cheaper, you are really in a good position! :)

You can go a lot farther on synthetic oil 10,000 to 12,000 miles unless you are under severe conditions. (short trips, stop and go traffic)

Arfur,

You are certainly fast in replying. Thanks.

BTW...Have you been to SouthHampton (across the pond of course).
Lived there for awhile as a child (Military base). I have many fond memories
of England...I even have a "Coronation coffee cup" from the Queen (God save the Queen !)

Thanks for the info. I thought that for the 10k-15k change cycles you need
the Moble1 extended oil.

Rowdy:
Appreciate the comment. One thing I've noticed with the EVIC...If on a straight road with minimal elevation changes...reset the EVIC gas milege
display...at about 55-60 mph...see 28-30 mpg on the display. Around town and highway have gotten 14-16 mpg since december 05....after one week with mobile1 averaged "almost" 18 mpg. Of course it's early for any real world
eval.

Just because Arfur and I are "pond buddies" does not indicate a "cyber-crush"
BUT when Arfur finds out that my corornation cup was given to me by the Queen herself "she put it in my dirty little kiddie hands" he may be a "bit" jealous...

BetoMXL:

Hmmmnn...hmmmn....

The "pond" is the ocean between Great Britain and America...It's a affectionate term (don't take that wrong Beto...jk) that the distance between two great allies is only seperated by a "pond".

to answere your question, "Mobil 1 worth the extra cost?"...your answere is yes and no....Mobil 1 is synthetic oil and your basiclly paying for the name...it's got good rep, but again your paying the extra cost for advertisment...there are better oils, one is Texas refinery and there are many others...i get Mobil 1 at whole sale price, for reasons i can not mention...my oil change is due in a month or so and i'll probably go w/ Mobil 1, but i might try something better, for less...later, jimmy
oil filter is another question...you can pick up K&N oil filters on-line or at a supporting vendor, HHP...

Since you are here in the US...you could get yourself some fried catfish and a bag of "lays" potatoe chips and thusly "fish and chips"...but somehow I dont think it would be the same as "Royal Fish and Chips"...Ah...life can be so cruel and devious...
