I know a tow truck or flatbed can do it. But without a tow truck can it be done. What alarm system do you recommend and what hood lock. Is there a way to have the trunk button open the trunk only when the key is on acc or turned on?

with the electronic keys and whatnot they have made it harder.

however beefing up your security can be good or bad. it either works and your lucky, or it pisses the criminals off enough to cause a ton of damage.

my buddies f350 with a factory and aftermarket alarm system was broken into while parked in his driveway with 8-10 guys watching football in the house. they shattered a window and screwed up the dash without anybody hearing. the moral is, if they want it, they will get it.

i know your more concerned about them stealing it, but breaking in is just as costly and anything with glass windows CAN be stolen.

Well invisible fence and a bunch of really mean dogs, almost ensure a safe vehicle.

They make these GPS alarms now, I think some of these alarms will even call you on your cell phone if something is going on.

You can used a web based app to check your cars status and even shut the motor off. Some of em even have a camera and can take pictures and send you those as well.

Straight up stealing? I think the charger would be avoided by anyone but the most teched-out criminal. And those would rather be stealing a porche or something I would imagine.

Breaking into and stealing you stuff? I think a little flashing LED from radioshack for 2.99 is as effective as a viper is going to be.

yeah as far as stealing goes; they need expensive electronics to do so on any new chrysler product; why else would they use Mercedes keys? I know the Sentry key system has been out for a while now but it is still very effective. now vandalism is a different story; thats just money lost unless they do 10,000 dollars worth of damage (and yes that is sarcasm just to be clear)

Do what I did - bag it.

Theres no way in hell it's gonna roll, or even get up on a tow truck for that matter. Best peace of mind money could buy. :D

Like your Charger would be hard to locate if it were stolen. APB out on a rediculously modified GMG Charger AKA SweetMango. She show up in about an hour. Plus yours is too known on here and with all the forum members, someone would spot her in under 15 minutes.

It doesnt take anything but a knowledge of the wiring system on the car. Fords for instance have a pats system similar to our transponder. If the correct key is not in the ignition it cuts power to the fuel pump. This can be bypassed by using a wire at the fuel pump relay to give it direct power yourself.
Most techs also have a break in kit that costs about 100 dollars complete with lock rod "grabbers", door handle wand, plastic wedge. Unfortuanately this kit is available to anyone. Most tow companies use it too. So for under 100 you can have the tools to get into the car in under 15 seconds and start it and go. You also have to take into account the steering wheel becoming locked after first turn without the key. It basically depends on who is stealing it, whether it be choppers, who are gonna sell off parts , or crack head timmy just selling the stereo stuff , on how far they need to go to get what they want.

See, wicked, while the base system, the Texas Instruments RFID system, is used by both PATS and SKIS, SKIS is much harder to get around.

It doesnt just do a simple fuel cut based on the keys presence. The keys info is also sent to the PCM, which independantly runs its own checks on the key vadility.

If its not on the list, the car PCM itself locks you out. and you cant run the car without a PCM.

Three basic things you need to protect against.

1. Flatbed/tow trucks. You cant stop them, a tracking system can help find them, maybe.

2. Hotwiring/hacking, driveaway theft. Unless they get factory your keys, dont worry about this. Ive yet to find one documented case of this happening to an LX.

3. Vadalism, smash and grab on stuff inside. A good system will alert you to such, but do think if your going to want to confront them over an IPOD or such.

just get a viper alarm with some accessories such as a tilt sensor, glass break sensor, or shock sensors.

They make bright yellow car boots for the public to purchase these days! Not that it will help smashed glass, busted dash, and missing electronics. Best defence, don't leave MP3's, CD's, fancy bling, GPS systems, radar detectors, etc... lying around in plain view, inside your car.

Haa our moderator is def a theif.. j/k he knows way too much!!! lol but I look at it like if they want it they will get it.. thats why i have insurance.. but dont help out and leave things laying in view or put product stickers on your car etc.. Unfortunately some of us have flashy cars which just attract attention by themselves.. so for example if ur one who parks your car way in the back of the lot when u go shopping ect. (which i know alot of us do) because u dont want dents or whatever the reason may be.. It says look at this nice car on display.. which can be bad..

Its really sad that now a days, this is such a talked about topic. Its bad when you wake up and your car has been stolen out of your garage. The only thing we can do is make sure that our car and everything done to them is covered by insurance.

If they want it, it's gone no matter what you have to protect it.

A Month After Buying My Charger, It Was Broken Into With That Dent Puller Trick, And They Took My BURNT CD's ...Lollllllllllllllllllll, I Just Laffed. All You Can Do Is Make Sure You Have Gap Insurance, And Keep Rolling, If Man Can Make It, Make Can Break It, Or Break INTO IT, Get The Gap Insurance, Have Em Pay It Off If Its's Stolen, And Keep Riding Charger Brethern. I Dont Care If They Steal My Car, Cause I Want An R/T Or A Daytona Anyway, Lollll ...

If you're worried about somebody pulling up with a tow truck or flat bed and stealing your car then an alarm will do you no good.

Any good car thief will know which alarm system you have in the car,and has the appropriate tools to disable it in under 10 seconds. Flatbeds will come soon after the alarm is bypassed/disabled. The pro's will usually have the car gone and just about ready to be stripped or sent over seas.

The best way to prevent it is to park it close to where you are, have a reliable alarm system, and other theft deterrent. I like motion detection lights go on when someone walks by the car/house. Having a sign close by stating that these area is being recorded(they sell cameras/vcr/computer based recording devices). Having a large and loud barking dog. Also, having the nice little electronic toys that will help you locate the car, and things that notify you if something is going on. Some alarm systems will send you a signal if it is bumped hard enough, if a car door opens, or if the vehicle is actually moving.

I know when I get my car, I'll be sure to get something done above, also getting a car cover that can lock, just another thing a car thief has to go through to get into the car if he is that determined.
