I meant in 4 door RWD trim, much like the BMW M5 or Audi super sedans, I think the Hellcat Charger will be the new king of RWD muscle sedans. I think it's fair to keep AWD vehicles out of this discussion.

Why keep AWD out of the discussion, it's a fair comparison for sedans

 

All that weight and no AWD means it won't have the finesse or the handling of the BMW M5. And I don't care because if I wanted handling I wouldn't get a 2+ ton family sedan. With 707hp, I have a feeling it will blow all but the Panamera Turbo and the Audi RS6/7 out of the water.

I absolutely cannot wait for the Charger Hellcat and think it will do to these luxury sedans what the Boss 302 did to the BMW M3 a few years back. It will throw a great big American wrench in the face of European carmakers who have had things their way for far too long. Yeah the CTS did this too but the Caddy never had 15ish more horsepower than the top of the range Lamborghini. In a straight line at least this 4 door family sedan will run with most Ferraris, for less than 100k.

Watch out Europe, we're hungry.

The transfer cases for an AWD Hellcat Charger would be Hasta la vista baby!
It would be awesome, and if i could get this and the chally Hc id be set for me and for family for life!
keep in mind, the weight also comes from the safety in these cars, what would 707 hp do to a porsche?

If they added AWD to the Hellcat, it could be virtually untouchable by anything else on the road.

I've always wanted SRT to do an AWD option on their V8 cars and there is no reason they can't.

My '05 Maggie was very impressive in it's performance for a 3.5L and I always thought how stunning my '06 SRT would be with the same AWD system. Certainly far more capable than it is as RWD in all aspects.

 

I always think it's hysterically funny when people bring up the challenger and charger... they always talk about how heavy they are but when it comes to cars like the two door BMW m6, the m5, or even Audi RS7, weight is never a problem or an issue. Hippocrats. These cars aren't abnormally obese for their size, they comfortably fall in the weight range they should be in.

Yep the curb weight on a brand new BMW M6 4 door aka "Grand Coupe" is 4,430lbs. IF and when Chrysler builds and releases a Hellcat Charger I'm betting the Charger to be around the same in weight or less ( The curb weight on the 2013 SRT Charger is 4,365lbs.) . The Hellcat will kill it. The BMW makes just 560HP and 502lb/ft of torque from it's 4.4 liter V8 Turbo engine ( same exact motor in the M5 as well). Whats the old Hot Rodder saying there's no replacement for displacement. LOL

 

If the HellCat Charger ends up with front and rear fascia that look better than the standard Chart, I would debadge any indication of HellCat so I could see the look of the mustang and camaro owners who get beat by an "ordinary looking sedan". It is annoying hearing "its a grandma sedan that is too heavy to compete and cant handle snow". Even hear Cobalt and Avenger owners talk crap.

It will be interesting to see what the new Charger SRT's front end looks like. Usually the front bumper on the SRT is slightly different. It was on the last model 2012 to 2014 so one can assume it will be on the next new model.

BMWs in general have LESS sophisticated suspension designs than the LX. They have a "double pivot" front suspension - which is a modified MacPherson strut. That is inherently INFERIOR to the double control arm setup of the LX cars. Our problem is not in the design but in the lack of refinement and tuning of our suspension. GM, Ford, and BMW do a better job tuning their suspensions .

GM - their shock technology is the best in the world - ask Ferrari

Ford - they made a primitive, solid axle Mustang crush the Challenger in handling

BMW - they used to be the best at tuning a suspension to give precise handling with a smooth ride. lately they have been surpassed by Audi as their cars have gotten bloated

 

Yep BMW back in the 70's,80's and 90's had much lighter nimble cars with fine tuned suspensions. Not the case anymore. With regards to GM not sure if that was the case back in the 70's, 80's or 90's, but it certainly is now.

 

It's gonna be interesting that's for sure.

 

To get as much room as the Chrysler 300C in a BMW you have to go to the long wheelbase 7 - BMW 740Li xDrive - equivalent to a 300C AWD, weighs 4600 pounds - 300 more than the 300C.

Even if you want to say the short wheelbase BMW is the same size it is still about 150 pounds heavier

From what I just heard, the base price will be around $63,500. Add a few $$ for options. Not confirmed but I believe everyone will be pleasantly surprised at the price. It will not be the $70K starting price floating around several threads.

Also ChallengerTalk is going to test the new Hellcat this month so there will be some track data to look at.:beerchug:

 

I've heard a rumor (again, unconfirmed, but seemed to come from a reliable source) that base is going to be $59,900....that's $13,000 BELOW the Z/28.

The Z/28 is a driver focused track car, lighter, more nimble with a high revving engine. Carbon ceramic brakes, 19" wheels. Weighs 3820lbs. Has a 427ci naturally aspirated, hand assembled engine (old Corvette Z06 engine). $75K is cheap versus a GTR, GTS, or 911 where it competes. It also runs up against the Corvette ZR1.

Obviously, this car is not for you. If you want a daily driver buy a ZL1. The Z/28 is for the track. The radio has one speaker. No sound deadening in the car. And Air Conditioning is an "option". The ZL1 engine is a downgrade for the Z/28.

Your desires in a car do not match the Z/28 design goals. Rather than disparage it, you should appreciate it for what it is. You may not see another like it. They are only making 3000 this year.

IMO Chevy was looking at the Mustang Boss 302 Leguna Seca, no leather and no back seat and very few options other than the Leguna Seca package. Sales were fairly good for that car but the base price was just shy of $50K. They overpriced the Z28 big time. AC I hear is an option. LOL

To me, if you want to build a track car you can start with a $30,000 Camaro, add $20K, and you have a car that handles as well as the Z-28 and blows it away on the straights.

For $75K I want a car that I can also drive on the highway and/or has incredible power. The Z-28 motor, the old Z06 mill, was great for 5 or 10 years ago. Today it is merely competitive.

For that price I am looking more at Cayman S or something a little more attractive.

I drove a Camaro SS for a week. It was brutal. There is 0 visibility out of that car - not something you ever want to drive in traffic.

I admire GM's suspension engineers but the rest of the car doesn't do it for me at that price

I think the Z06 engine really pushes the price up for the Z-28 and that is what kills the value. That motor probably costs $10K more than the SS motor but only delivers 85 more HP.

They might as well take a regular SS, strip it, add teh Z-28 suspension, and sell it under 50!

 

The Hellcat Challenger is doing 10.91 in the 1/4 with the 6 speed manual. That was 4 tenths of a second faster then the GT500 on the same day, same track.
