Greetings all. I've been lurking for almost a year now. Most of my questions have been answered in previous posts and I thoroughly enjoy reading through your knowledge base but this time I haven't found what I was looking for. I think I get the pros for getting a fiberglass hood, mostly wieght and cost. But what are the cons? Anything that would make me wish I hadn't bought one? Thanks for your input!:beerchug:

I don't know from experience, but I have heard of a few cons through reading other posts. One is the amount of prep required. Fiberglass hoods generally require a lot more prep work that cf or steel/aluminum. Cost for prep alone can be around $200. Another big con is securing the hood. There have been a few stories here about fiberglass hoods tearing away from the latch and flying up while driving. This can easily be fixed with hood pins, though. Hope this helps!

yeah these things are really 50/50 - they can crack easily sometimes, unlatch and smash the top and windshield of your car, not fit properly, etc etc... OR they can be absolutely perfect and have no problems at all

I'd say if you really want an SRT hood, save your pennies and buy a genuine SRT hood. If you want a different style glass hood, some of the members that have them can probably better answer your questions.

If you want an SRT hood, don't settle for SRT wannabe...get the real deal. :bigthumb:

(BTW, the SRT hood is aluminum. Glass can't beat the weight. There's a reason why airplanes are made from aluminum, not fiberglass)

Fiberglass requires a lot of time and effort to make fit. Lots. The OE SRT-8 hoods are mint , but $1500 is alot of bread. I went cheap with a stick on scoop. $100- 150 ish. Very Little effort-scuff prime and paint. I'm happy with the fit, look and attatchment is good. It needs a real good prep to stick, but says put. -0929a
