Okay man here goes. I was a certified state inspector over here on the k.c. side for 7 years. Now you guys have a gas analyzer test in stl but other than that you have the same state guidelines as the rest of missouri.

The first guy was a retard. Tint stopped being checked in the state of missouri by tech/inspectors in 03 as the equipment could not be furnished to all shops in missouri by the highway patrol.

The rules for windshields is
a/ it must be marked with the as1 logo
b/ It may have no more than two bullseye cracks bigger in diameter than a quater
c/ any cracks may not be in the drivers view (drivers wiper area) or extrude enough to snag on the wiper of either side .
d/ state inspesction sticker must be applied to lower left portion of window.

Tint hasnt been checked in years however if the tech thought it was vision reducing material i can see why he did it but technically he's wrong.



See here's what s bad about the system. When you come back the second time for a recheck= lets say they failed you for a bad lf tire, chords showing. IF you go outside and move that tire to the lr and bring it back in you pass cause all they can check is the original failed part.

Also inspectors care on different levels. If they get caught screwing up it is a 15000 dollar fine. however these inspections normally pay us techs .3 which is 18 min. IF we did the whole thing correctly it would take two hours and we'd never make money so you get different emotions from different inspectors

 

i believe the state inspection manual is still available online. We can probably find it if you wanna go back and fight over that twelve bones

I would call and talk to his boss.
a/ they will just say the other guy didnt do his job
b/ If he sees the name of the guy who did pass you he may call and start shi4 with him or call the local troop and try to get him in trouble. This is a serious game for these guys and its easy to get fined for not checking a car good. I'd call his boss and tell him what happened but outside of that i wouldnt do much more.

 

Yeah i am not going to go tell him who passed it. Im just gonna let him know what happened and tell him 20 mins after they failed it another shop passed it. Just crazyness. :lol:

 

When I had my car inspected for the first time, the tech said she couldn't pass it because the E-brake wasn't holding. I said "Show me" so she tried to tell me that if the E-brake light is lit on the dash then the brake is supposed to be holding the car. Now we all know how sensitive the e-brake pedal position is on these cars. I argued a little with her and explained that most cars are set so the light comes on a little before the brake grabs. That way, you know the pedal's been nudged before it actually starts dragging the brake and wearing it out. She caved and passed the car. I hate getting my car inspected by someone who can barely change the air filter. Sorry.

 

Ebrakes arent checked in missouri, so that s new on me. the only thing ebrake related is the red light on the dash can not be illuminated for our inspections or its a automatic failure. its not the inspectors job to get into diagnosing the light unless you pay him more

 

Don't let him see the sticker or he can call it in and they can (and probably will) go back on the other station and start crap i used to be a state lick and stick jockey for (cape girardeau) Mo. loved it i really didnt care so i passed anything that could pull itself into the shop . I know its probly not right but i did it . dont do it any more but i did it 10 years ago.

 

I went back up there in a different car and told him I got passed at another facility 10 mins after his agent failed mine. He kept asking who passed it i said "it was against shop/Customer privledges" and i could not release that info! HAHAHAHA #### them! He gave me my 12.00 back but he was not happy! :lol:

 

...I asked the guy about my window tint and he says "if there is a problem with the tint thats the police dept's job, not an inspection site" Needless to say i guess it just depends on where you go and who is you inspector!

We used to have an inspector back in PA we called "Lick 'em, Stick 'em Georio"! :laugh: He would not pass an unsafe vehicle, but he let a lot of the little stuff slide. :grin:

 

Here in NC you pay an extra $10 for the inspection if you have tinted windows. It's a complete rip-off.

 

or an extra 50 dollars because your car is illegal and have to pay someone off to pass it. . my tint is too dark 32% in the front (legal is 35), 15% in the rear (35 all the way around is legal), catless downpipe. so if they put my car on a lift i am screwed so i usually take it to a shop (NOT SAYING WHERE) and pay them to pass me .

 

Well I got everything done expect for the inspection and the guy says. "Sorry your window tint is Below the AS1 line on the windshield and I cannot pass your vehicle" Little did he know there is no factory AS 1 line on the chargers!

First off, from what I understand, if your vehicle doesn't have an AS-1 line and your state tinting law depicts tinting to the AS-1 line only, it is illegal to put tinting anywhere on the uppermost portion of your windshield.

But anyways, if he failed the tint because it was below the AS-1 line, didn't you ask him to show where that AS-1 marker is?

I suspect because there was no AS-1 line, he failed you becasue you had tint up there and wasn't clear on the explantion to you on the rejection.

Check the passenger side of your windshield. Mine does have a AS-1 line. Its only a few inches from the top and only a tiny line marks AS-1 on the passengers side.

 

So glad I live in Washington. No inspections and in some counties no emissions!!!!
