Anti-Rattle Brake Clips, a must change?

Good questions, to which I may have answers!

I've never heard of the problems you mentioned getting solved by replacing the clips (but that's not to say it's not the case).

If they try to sell you new clips, BE SURE to see the old ones and ask why - I've never heard of them needing to be replaced. Brake jobs are the single most notorious scheme for selling you parts and services that you do not need. I'll show you what they look like so you'll know.

It's an EASY job to swap out the pads yourself if you want to save a lot of money. Seriously, it's easier than swapping sparkplugs. I'll post the link to the write-up I did showing you how, and you can decide.

Here's some pictures:

This is one of the rear anti-rattle clips (there's two per caliper):

It just lays in the "caliper adapter" like so:

You can take 'em off and clean 'em up, and tweak them like this to give them a little more tension on the brake pads - that's what they're there for, to help keep the brake pads from rattling around under load.

Here's how the pads go in:

Here's the thread on swapping pads: Brake Pad Replacement (5.7L) - Step by Step

And here's one about stopping brake squeal - it's related: How to stop brake squeal. Answers here.

Hope that helps!

lol, I was editing my post while you were posting this one. I seem to have found your original post too! So by bending the clips, they provide a tighter fit which would hold the pads in place, hence stopping any rattle.
Yes, that's the idea, but they only work so well...
