So after calling for the A8 to replace the A5 last year, FCA is saying again it will happen. So look for all 2021 Pursuits to now get the A8 automatic transmission.

Also a configuration swap, there will again be only two ways to get the Pursuit, either 3.6L or 5.7L but now the 3.6L will be AWD only and the 5.7L will be RWD only, this being backwards from last year. Doesn't seem to make sense with so many city agencies buying the V6 who don't need the AWD so we'll see how and if this pans out.

Also, all Pursuits will now be limited to a 140 top speed although the agency can disable this if desired.

Production starts 4th quarter this year.

The local police force here in my city uses 5.7 AWD.

Wonder why they would cut AWD from the 5.7?

Was considering buying a used pursuit at first, but all of the ones I saw appear to have been driven to the ground by people who don't care for them.

It does seem odd unless they just want to stay at two Pursuit models and will alternate powertrains every other year. There's many highway patrol and other orders that want the 5.7L RWD so this is their chance to get it. So you can buy what you want but it will only be available every other year so plan ahead. I don't know, it does seem crazy, just don't know what else they could be thinking.

The old 5-speed automatic already had the tooling and fitting for the pairing of the 5.7 HEMI/AWD.

Remember, it was offered on the civilian R/T's in the late 2000's. They didn't have to spend any money, they just reused the same engineering, parts, and assembly process they used for the civilian AWD/V8.

The new 8-speed is not equipped or fabricated to operate with AWD, paired with the 5.7 HEMI. It would require new engineering expenditure, which is not feasible for such a small market share. The RWD-only 5.7 HEMI Police Pursuit is here to stay.

It already took them 5 years to get the 8-speed transmission in the Pursuit model, all because they didn't want to spend the money to make the new transmission work with the police steering column shifter. It'd be crazy to think they'd spend money on modifying/setting up the 8-speed for AWD/V8.

An SRT engineer a while back mentioned why they don't offer the V8 with AWD anymore, and how much they have to change in relation to the differential, axles, and assembly line process for something that only accounted for maybe 5% of sales at best.

That's a great explanation and makes total sense. Just hope the mandatory AWD with the V6 doesn't kill too many sales.

Now the two 2021 test cars that they sent to Michigan for the tests they do both had the floor shifter so wonder how that is going to work with the radios.

And what's with this new interior light setup?

I'm glad I got my 5.7 AWD Pursuit when I did. I would NEVER consider buying a 5.7 RWD Pursuit unless it was being sold at a really low price. There's nothing special about that particular model to make me want to put up with the harsh suspension and few options. The V6 AWD Pursuit is also a waste of time. Civilian models can be had with far better options with the same drivetrain.

I agree. That's the main reason I got mine.
Seems strange to switch awd around like that. It makes sense when its out that way about the 8 speed v6 already being out there but making it standard seems like a dumb move. It would be interesting to know the Hemi awd sales figures and out of the departments that ordered them who really needed it.

2019 Pursuit sales

6,638.... 3.6L RWD
4,477.... 5.7L RWD
9,775.... 5.7L AWD

So almost half of the Pursuits in 2019 were AWD and all were 5.7L, and that's the question, how many wanted the 3.6L AWD all along and how many of the 5.7L AWD buyers will look elsewhere for more power.

The reason for them cutting the pursuit 5.7 awd is because they are unable to use the A8 trans without spending a ton of money to refit it to the charger 5.7 in an awd set up. They have been using the WA580 to combat this because it already fit in the 05-14 lx platform cars. But they haven't produced this transmission for around 5 years now... They are more than likely running out of these or running generally low if they've been pumping out all 5.7 pursuits with the WA580 for years since they ended production. The A8 in the v6 is different enough than the A8 in the v8 that they would have to spend too much money on a platform they are discontinuing in a few years. They wanted to move the A8 in the 5.7 because the performance would be very nice, but couldn't justify the cost. Sad, but this is the truth of it.
