2010 RT vs 2006 RT

I recently purchased a 2010 Charger RT (no R&T package). A friend of mine has a 2008 RT with Daytona Package. I know the Daytona's are set up a little better, but the 2010 has more HP to start. At some point, we will have to line them up, but what do you think? Which one would you give the edge too?

PS - I am new to the Forum and love reading all of the advice, tips, and information on here.

Need to know..... any mods on either Charger?

I know who has the edge in the looks department.

They do look nice, I will give you that.

I am new to the game and will be adding a few things in the near future. As stated above, I already got the windows tinted. Forgot to mention I added a spoiler. My next exterior mod will likely be silver rally stripes (car is black). For performance, the forum seems to indicate the standards are Diablo and CAI.

For now, I am just trying to see where I stand in the performance category against pre-2009 RT's with the R&T or Daytona package. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

In a straight line, I'd say it is pretty much a drivers race. Although your buddy has had his for 2 years, it's broken in, and he already knows how she feels and reacts to mashing the skinny pedal.

If cornering or anything of the such, I'd give the edge to the Daytona.

Stock for stock you should smoke him. 2008 is low 14 high 13's??? If that.

2010 with 2.6 gearing runs mid 13's with a decent driver.

They also changed the gearing mid-year back to 3.06 or near that. If you got a later production one with the lower gears, I hope you take it to the track and let me know what you run!!!

x2

The 2009 and 2010's have a much bigger advantage than most realize. Most charger enthusiasts bought the earlier run chargers, 2006-2008... so you don't hear too much of the times for the 09/10's.

The 09's/10's are almost a half-second faster: Low 13's are possible on a good day with just a CAI/Predator.

It would be in your window sticker. You can also request a build sheet from Dodge.

There is always the calculated "what rpm at 55mph in 4th gear" way to determine ratio... the math for that eludes me right now, at work using my phone...

2009 2010 would win in a stock for stock challenge against the 06-08

My sticker doesn't say. From what the dodge site says...
2.65 Rear Axle Ratio

Is that a software setting or actual gear ratios. Is it worth changing?

Also does the Predator Canned tunes take advantage of the VVT 5.7 or still built on the older 5.7 engine?

My best guesstimation:

Window sticker (and it should have axle ratio... if it doesn't, weird.) calls your car Dodge Charger R/T RWD... you have the 2.65 gears. If it says Dodge Charger R/T Plus, you have the 3.06 rear axle ratio. I believe the R&T's have 3.06 regardless.

The rear axle ratio is actually a GEAR (set of gears)... it can be changed PHYSICALLY, and you need to also change the software via starscan or predator.

Is it worth changing:

Depends on what you want out of the car.

2.65 = high gears, (low numerically) a.k.a. airplane gears, your car has a very high top end speed, but it will take you forever to get there. You will have better gas mileage, but less acceleration.

3.06 = medium gears, good all around gearing. better acceleration, poorer gas economy.

4.10 = low gearing poor fuel economy, lower top speed, but it will get you there FAST!!! Good for drag racing.

I have the 2.65 gears. I can achieve 30MPG straight highway... around town, I get 22MPG. I have a CAI, exhaust and a tuner... I run low 13's at the track. I am pretty happy with my gearing.

I would like to have the 3.06... for the track, just to see what it would do.

Even with the 2.65 gears, this is an impressive ride. It will throw you back in your seat, drag racing buddies with old school muscle cars have been impressed riding in it. I can break the tires loose going straight at 20MPH on smooth pavement/concrete by punching it in first.

Does the predator take advantage of VVT? IDK.... good question!

Excellent information so far guys....thanks. My window sticker does not specifically mention gears, but it does say 2010 Dodge Charger RT RWD so I guess according to your posts, it must have the 2.65 gears.

How big of a difference do you think 2.65 vs 3.06 gears makes when talking 0-60 or 1/4 mile? Just curious...I really get into all these facts and figures!

The 3.06 over the 2.65 would probably only be 2 tenths quicker in the quarter mile. IMO it's too much of a hassle swapping out the gears. You will be confined to using the Predator and you can say goodbye to your warranty. You will not be able to return to your stock settings because if you do you will go into limp mode. You gotta weigh the pros and cons when considering this mod.

CB9 , unless you got the optional " track pack", you have the 2.65 like i did. A month or 2 ago i had a getrag 3.06 installed and it feels alot better to me compared to the 2.65 but as blackRT said, i'm confined to using the predator to adjust for the gear change.

I spec'd out a 2010 R/T plus on Dodge dot com all the new R/Ts come with the 3.06 They seem to have a "2010 1/2" R/T in the "Plus" the earlier model was the R/T RWD

I can get 30MPG on the straight highway only trips, 22MPG around town.... and I run consistent low 13's at the track... I'm good with that. :bigthumb:

#28 ·
Straight up highway driving ONLY can I get 30... you got it, driving just like grandma!

Usually only 20 around town.

keep one other thing in mind, the older chargers had the 18 wheel instead of the 20's. This will help acceleration for the older charger.
I had raced a o6, charger v8 with the only mod was the afe cai. AT the 1/4 mile.
he got about 1 car on me off the line then we were stuck neither pulling away or catching up through the traps. I had some time to think and I really think its the
wheel diameter that did that. That ( wheel diameter) does act similiar to changing the gearing. Let us know.
