T-stat change-out and CEL

This morning I changed out my stock t-stat with a Motorad 4128. At the same time I did the 11-14-16 fuse pull (which I have done many times before). When I restarted my car, my engine light came on and stayed on. I drove the car to a local Autozone so they could scan the code(s), and here is what turned up:

-PO 700......"The PCM has received a signal to turn on the "malfunction indicator lamp" from the transmission control system."
-UO 100.....no code in Autozone reference.

Now, once the codes were read and the car restarted, the CEL light cleared and did not come back on....Any feedback on this?
Finally, the T-stat I installed is a 180 degree stat, but my car temp peaked at 199 degrees after 20 minutes of driving.....is that normal when outside temps are in the mid-50s? My stock t-stat usually kept the temps at about 210-212 degrees....

That's not right. The 180 is the opening temp.
If you want to see it work. Just put it in a pot of water on the stove. If you have a meat thermometer you can see how long it takes to open.
My 190 tstat starts opening at 190 and completely open at 195.
It should fully open within a couple degrees. The way it works is the cylinder in the center is filled with a wax that melts at a certain temperature.
When the wax melts it expands, and pushes the valve open. Going from a solid to a liquid happens over a couple degrees. In theory the the tstat should go from closed to open in 1 degree change in coolant temp. It takes time for the wax to melt. So it generally takes a couple degrees before all the wax can melted. The wax will continue to expand as it heats up but this thermal expansion after it's a liquid is insignificant. The majority of the expansion takes place when the wax changes states. (from solid to liquid form)

It will close at the same temp it opens.

as to the code, sometimes the computer just has a fit.

I started the car up one day and my dash was lit up like a x-mass tree and drove like crap. Stopped, turned the car off, restarted and it was all good.

Glock -I though the rating was the open temp of the stat, it opens @ 180

Glenn to answer your questions it appears that the CEL was just an anomaly and not related to the t stat change. I also have the 4128 and it is perfectly normal for it to run 199 or higher w/o a fan mod. The t stat can stay open all day but if the coolant is not cooled by air through the radiator it makes no difference how cool your stat is. Sitting in traffic it's not uncommon for me to hit 215, then the fans come on and it stays hot till I get going. I'm waiting on a fan mod cause I don't like running wires and messing with the relays. I'm waiting for a tuner to program the fans to turn on earlier. The way it sounds I'll have quite a long wait. Until then I'll enjoy the cooler highway temps.

lets keep this thread going

One question- why would the fan come on before the Tstat is fully open?

The fan comes on at a specific engine temp whether the tstat is open or closed. The fan on temp is pretty high, like 210 or something. At that temp the tstat should always be fully open unless it is malfuctuioning.

Follow up to my original post.....
Since I cleared the initial CEL after the t-stat change out and fuse pull, I have had no further CEL's.....

Temp of car has been running about 190 degrees or so, with weather here being in the 30's-40's for most of this week.

a p0700 means you've set a tcm (transmission control module) code. You then have to access the tcm not the pcm codes which i'm sure autoboner cant do. Star scan could. However anytime you interupt power your going to throw codes in certain modules because they cant communicate with each other. From what i remember in class i beleive they said most of the lx cars have 30+ modules in them. The modules communicate for up to 24 hours after key off. IF you interuppted power (aka fuse pull) it will set codes in what ever modules were communicating at the time.
Thats why once the cel was cleared she never came back on.
