WTF??

Does your FRONT PASSENGER seat go back as far as your FRONT DRIVER seat can? I have the SRT8 and full power both front seats and my passenger seat doesn't go back nearly as far as the driver's seat does..

What about your guys' seats? Does your passenger go back all of the way?

You can remove the stops on the passenger seat...just move it all the way up get in behind and look for the long screws...take those out it holds a rail that prevents the seat from going back. Once they are out you passenger seat will go as far back as the drivers seat.

Cool, does the rail come out, too, or just the screws? 2 of them, right?

Take it all out!

Good luck

See the "did you know that" thread. I posted details about it.

Basically, there are plastic clips on the rails (they look like looooong screws) that the seat travels on. Just pop those plastic, 3" long items from the rear of the rails, off using a small blade screwdriver.
It's easiest to move the seat all way forward, then do the work from the rear seat. Takes about 60 seconds start to finish.

The $20000+tx question:

Why are the plastic "stops" there to begin with?

Cuz they had to spend the money on the auto-headlights switch, and hood props, that were omitted on many of the shipped cars?

I'm not sure I understand... some of the cars came without those plastic stops?

Just trying to figure out why they're there to begin with. Is it something left over from the assembly process (ie. something to help position the seats, etc.)? Or is this something to address a potential weakness in the seat track when adjusted that far back? Perhaps the air bags are not as effective if the passenger is sitting that far back? (ie. the driver's airbag is closer by default, due to the wheel position).

In today's mode of cutting costs as ridiculously as possible by eliminating every little item possible, I am wondering why they'd install these caps.

That is a good question really. At first, I thought it was to insure the rear passenger had enough room. But then why do it that way, and not design the seat to permanently go only so far back? And, the drivers side doesn't have it that way.
The air bag is a good thought. Maybe it's a safety issue. But then they sure made it easy to defeat.

Now this is going to be a great quick mod to give my passenger more leg room. Since I'm like 6' 1" and my brother is like 6' 5 / 6' 6

Be sure you are not removing or altering any hardware for the weight sensing system for the passenger airbag. The frame of the seat is a scale for determining whether or not to disable the passenger air bag deployment.

bro. Just take out the front seats alltogether, your tall enough! Sure prevents anyone from "borrowing your car"

Just did this. It's super easy, took all of 1 min.
This will really help, because my wife is 5' 10" and has always complained about the seat not going back as far as the driver's.
I really appreciate the info guys, thanks a lot!
Thought I would post a couple of pics of these clips so everyone can see what they look like.
They snap to the allthreads that the seat track rides on, and come right off.

I wonder if there's any significance to the paint color? Mine had blue paint on them (where's the pic above is yellow). Just curious really, as somehow they got dotted with paint, and someone somewhere somtime had to choose it.

I checked this yesterday, and found that both seats go back the same distance. What's bizarre, though, is the the driver's seat goes 2-3 inches further forward. My 9 year old could drive the General with the seat all the way forward...

The mystery will continue. I just checked my CSRT8, and found I had the same plastic stops, but the paint color on mine is white ( yours being blue, and the photo being yellow ). Probably just what ever paint was close by or available.

Glad you guys noticed this, because I was wondering why my passenger seat didn't seem to go back an equal distance, but I never thought to look.

As for the plastic device being a "safety" device, I would certainly hope that DC would invest in a more secure solution, if this "clip-on" piece of plastic is supposed to have something to do with the air-bag seat sensor position, etc. Mine came off in like 1-2 seconds, not including moving the seat forward.

I wonder if there're clips on the front of the passenger seat rails, too!
