The antenna is not going to work for the CB, and is not going to work well for the scanner. I have found the phantom antennas never seem to work well for scanners. Instead of hacking up your interior with that CB, have you considered-

Everything is in the hand mic, and only a small little box needs to be hidden to connect the power and antenna.

Not to be too negative, but you may want to check State Law concerning scanners in automobiles. Most states come with a pretty hefty fine and loss of the equipment, etc..etc..

Besides, most of the law enforcment and fire department are going to digital services rather then using VHF/UHF Frequincies. Scanners are starting to go the way of the Dinosaur.

Just my opinion.

And the whole digital issue. My dept went 800 digital, and just about everyone else in the county is on the same system. So, unless you want to listen to highway maint. most scanners are useless now.

but cant you purchase a digital one? I thought that civilians had to be able to purchase equipment that would allow them to hear police calls?

Make sure you really want to listen to that chatter before installing. I had a CB 30 years ago and got rid of it because I couldn't take listening to some of the nitwits on there. I'm retired from police work, so I wouldn't want to listen to a scanner either. I'd recommend something portable which won't butcher your interior.

Another note, unless you just want to talk on the CB the scanner will cover monitoring it as well. It my last two trips I rarely heard any CB traffic, mainly if the scales were open and what was to the best way to get to... type of stuff. I would see a trooper go down the road and not a peep out of anyone on the CB.

main reason I would like to have it is for my volunteer neighborhood watch. I live in a high crime area and having something like this would help. I hear most police are changing to digital so the normal trunk scanners won't work. Also, if I do have to report anything are there open channels I can use to speak to the police/fire dept? The local dispatchers are a real pain to speak to. I called 911 about 3-4 times last week and it took me 15-20 min to explain things to them before they would send a unit. By that time the perp would leave the crime scene.

I don't believe that anyone of "authority" listens to CB radio anymore. Channel 9 is all but useless.

As far as the scanner. Legal to use when parked but normally not if moving. If you have a HAM license, the scanner is OK in when moving but keep your license handy. I've had to show mine twice.

They only way to get around the 911 Call taker is to find out a direct number to a Dispatcher. You'll learn this with the scanner, they won't give it to you. There are no direct radio connections.

Every PD has a non-emergency number that is made public.

As far as the OP topic. If your going to get a CB that large, you need to look at getting quality. Nothing wrong with uniden, but there are better units out there for the same price, or just a tad more.

CB Antenna. You can't go wrong with a Wilson. Either a 1000 or a 5000.

Scanner Antenna, radio Shack has a decent mobile scanner antenna.
