Anyone have DynoMax Cat-Back Exhaust?

Does anyone have a DynoMax cat-back exhaust setup? I found a single tip setup for less than $300, part #19419. I really want a cat-back. I have gone with Magnaflow in the past but the DynoMax is cheaper. Didn't know if it's one of those "you get what you pay for" situations. I'm also not looking for anything too loud. Just a better flowing system overall.

it is one of those you get what you pay for....

mufflers are ok to good quality....they use cheaper fiberglass compared to places like magnaflow, borla, zoomers, etc.... but price wise they are cheaper, so when the fiberglass wears down, its cheaper to replace. a more quality muffler will last longer before replacing... so its really an even give and take.... pay more now, lasts longer, pay less now, lasts shorter.

the pipes are mandrel bent, but aluminized steel, which tends to rust faster than stainless steel

Direct-fit Super Turbo mufflers feature patented flow directors
to channel exhaust flow for maximum power
All-aluminized mandrel-bent DynoMax pipes for smooth exhaust flow
Most Super Turbo systems follow the OE routing and attach directly
to OE mounting locations
Required clamps and hangers are included in the Super Turbo Kits
according to their PDF catalog http://www.dynomax.com/ecat/pdfs/passengercarcats.pdf

the only thing stainless about them are the tips....since the superflow mufflers are also made of aluminized steel. the aluminization helps it to resist corrosion a bit, but its no where near the resistance of stainless steel.

if thats ok with you, def go for it. well worth the cash. BUT if you live in a salty area like the east coast mid atlantic, and have alot of snow and salt, aluminized steel isnt the greatest. especially since welds are usually the first thing to rust.

for the price of magnaflow through HHP, its alot lower than most other places ;) but depends on how long you want things to last really.

Thanks for your answer. You know I always enjoy reading your responses. They have helped at least in my decision making.

I live in central Texas. Salt is not a problem, but it can get cold, even for Texas. It might snow like one day a year down here, so wear/tear will be down the road. I'm just trying to get something fast, but maybe I should wait and stick with the magnaflows.

Well, I've thought alot on this issue, and I think after Christmas I'll give the Dynomax cat-back a try. They seem to have a great sound and I don't think with my driving habits and where I live, rust will be a problem anything soon. If it does, then I'll replace with something else.

Since all these cat-backs seem to be sold as bolt-ons, do I need to get the car on a lift, or will axle stands work? Or, is it just easiler paying a muffler shop put it on? I'm sort of new when it comes to working underneath the car.

muffler shop naturally would be the easiest. mainly because they do it. you just pay em. costs generally run 100-200$ in most places but if you can find a mom and pop local shop....well worth it.

if you have a lift, then that def would make it easier. just more room to move around and push and pull at certain angles...

jackstands, its can be done just the same. a bit tighter, but as long as you can fit under the car with the jackstands, exhaust have been put on with em.

if you DO go under the car, ALWAYS have someone out there with you. just for safety reasons. wife, kid, neighbor, etc...

Once my cat-back is installed, do I need to rerun the tune, or will the predator adapt?

the cars computer will adapt.... the cars computer is ALWAYS adapting when its on and driving.

if you drive up a mountain and the air thins out, its adjusts for less oxygen on the fly, the minute you come down, it adjusts the same, it adjusts for temp changes, pretty much everything.

just install and drive for a couple of miles and the computer will learn on its own.:bigthumb:
