I thought I read on this site (but could not find under any search) that we could turn on the daytime running lights on the car... today I saw a Magnum with the tails, running and fog lamps on and it looked cool.... anyone know how to do this? My dealer says it's only on the Canadian cars...

Daytime running lights are not the same as simply turning your lights on.

It's basically your high beams on but running at lower voltage such that they're noticeable but not blinding.
I disagree... daytime running lights are your parking lights on most cars... some cars, like my suburban, have brighter lights that are not as bright as headlights and those are the running lights.... but running lights are not headlights with lower voltage... I've never ever seen that...

I always assumed parking lights to be the signals turned on. Nothing to do with the headlights. Daytime running lights are always the headlights on. I'm basing the highbeam theory on my Jimmy. When the low beam filaments went my DRL's would still work fine. When my highbeam filament went the DRL died along with it.

Not familiar with the Dodge system yet, but on my current GMC and Olds, and a past Chevy, you could turn on the marker lights without headlights, along with your fogs.

Does the Charger not normally do this?

I have the DRL on my charger. It's the headlights, I'll have to check which beam. The only quirk I have with it is that when you turn your signal light on the DRL on the same side of the car deactivates till the turn signal disengages. I've confirmed the behavior with other Charger owners but it's still weird. I've never seen that before.

Apparently the DRL function is dependent on sales code. Canadian and fleet sales have it enabled. There is an option in starscan to toggle it on/off but it doesn't change the function unless the sales code is right. It's not clear that this can be defeated yet so the option is to go aftermarket.

I turn the light switch on when I want lights.

Probably true, but not relavent to my comment.

Is relavent spelled right? It looks funny. hmmm...should have picked a different word. Pertinant. That's it.

Wait, that looks funny too.

dammit!

I think the tread he is referring to is the one about your headlights comming on with your windshield wipers. In Illinois it's the law to have your headlights on when it's raining. I remember in the tread that it was a "soft" program that the dealer can do. Next time I'm in for an oil change, I'm gonna see if they can do this, as I'd like to have my lights come on with the wipers. I've already done the "auto" mod to my switch.

Daytona 1908/4000
MagnaFlow exhaust (sounds awsome)
Volant CAI - on order (still waiting)
Hood shocks
Headlight auto mod
Escort 8500 x50 (hardwired)

Last evening, as I was reviewing the list of changes to the latest CD update to starscan, version 6.03, the mystery was solved - the latest CD update to starscan, released 9/19/05 contained, among many other improvements, a fix to the DRL enablement option. Mystery solved: Those who had been successful had been enabled with an updated starscan unit, those of us for whom DRL enabling was a frustrating failure were using starscan units that were lacking the 6.03 update.
Taken from the lengthy thread on the 300C forum. Go to the dealer and make sure he has this version on his starscanner.

Yes, You must have 6.03 or later installed on the starscan to get DRL's to work. I have confirmed this with my own starscan. Yes, I do own a starscan. LOL! It doesn't matter about the region, it will work for all LX's.

The high beams come on at a lower output.

i just always keep my lights on always.... if people see me easier i guess you can avoid more problems.

The 93-02 Camaros and Firebirds acted that way in Canada too.

the drls are the high beams only at a lower voltage and they can be turned on with a star scan just find somebody that is good with the tool and it is easy to fix !

Look where your turn signal is> The daytime running light goes out so you can see the turn signal. A good feature. Daytime running lights are not a just to be cool thing. It is a safety thing and If you have a dimmed high beam in your face it is really hard to see the turn signal flashing beside it. SO the light go out and it leaves the turn signal all alone to be seen. Pretty cool!!!!! Pretty smart!!!! Pretty neet!!!!!!!!

I went to the dealer and had them put the star scan I think it is called on Daytona to enable the Daytime running lights. It is the High beams only run on a lower voltage so they are dimmer. They go off when a turn signal is turned on , on the same side so the turn signal is noticed and not drowned out by the running light high beams. Pretty neet!!!!!! Pretty cool!!!!!!!!!!!! Really smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Added Automatic Daytime Running Lights to my Charger ( GoManGo #748 ). That was before I found out that with a simple Modification to the Light switch would give you Automatic Headlights But ... not Daytime Running Lights. I purchaused a "Daytime Running Light Module" on E-Bay and had it installed along with a DEI Phyton 881 Alarm and Autostart. The Headlights are on at reducted Voltage durning the day and switch to full Voltage based on ambent light. I added Daytime Running Lights as a safety issue .
