Hey guys, I have a problem with my entire ac system. So a couple months ago, I was having problems with my AC system not blowing cold, and the blower motor making a ticking sound. Took it to the dealership, they found the issue. They told me I had a leak from the evaporator that was making the air blow warm. The blower motor rattle cage was going bad as well according to them. They wanted to charge around 900$ for the fix. I didn't have the funds at the time, so I saved up over the winter since I wouldnt need it.
Now, the AC system does not work at all. No hot/cold air. The heater worked perfectly before today. Now nothing.I can hear the system kick in and try to start but nothing.Could I have damaged something by not getting it fixed and just made the entire problem worse? Ideas?

Bryce:
If there is an ongoing issue with your blower motor, it may have finally given up the ghost. If there is a leak in the evap, your refrigerant would eventually escape to the point that the low side limit switch will no longer allow the compressor to engage. The evap is not a fun repair, as the entire dash usually must be pulled back from the firewall to access it. $900 is not a bad price, as I have heard evap replacement quotes of $1.2-$1.5K depending on the vehicle.

The blower motor most of the time is a fairly easy DIY repair, but not always.

Kinda sounds like I should of just fixed it then lol. Is it possible the compressor is damaged now too? Because man I'd hate my life if that was the case now as well.

Well things just got more interesting. It didn't work at all yesterday. Went to the store just now, and it turned on just fine. Blew hot air when the heater was on. Yesterday it was doing nothing. I haven't touched anything. This seems really strange to me.

That is strange. I am thinking your blower motor or it's associated wiring is suspect. This would be separate of course from the AC evap leak. Just out of curiosty, see if the AC works at all.

So, since it can work on both sides (heat and cool), the larger pieces of the system are still functioning somewhat.
IIRC, there have been some software updates for the HVAC system. Do you know if these have been applied? I believe you can go here and enter your VIN to see if your car needs any updates. If there are no applicable updates, I would zero in on the blower and it's control circuit.

For some reason it's not finding my vin. Tripple checked it. Just gonna take it a mechanic at this point. Theres nothing I can really do I feel like. I'm not mechanically inclined enough to tear apart my dashboard and fix both the issues.

Hi Bryce, Feel free to let us know via private message if you plan to work with your dealer to resolve this. We are happy to provide you with additional assistance during that process.

That's strange. I had inputted mine to try the link before I posted it, and it worked good for me. Wherever you take it, I would ask them to start with the updates, so they don't tear into it unless necessary. Let us know how it turns out.

Ok so I found the problem with the update process. It was my browser apparently. Tried with chrome and firefox, didn't work. Didn't even bother with IE since it's so crappy. So just now I took a shot in the dark and tried IE and it worked. Just updated it. Either way if this does fix the blower motor problem, still gotta take it in for the evap leak.

I agree if you are overwhelmed at the thought of doing this, take it somewhere to diagnosis and repair it

I had to replace the evap on a 2010 ford and literally had the front interior out to get the dash off. I ended up buying the complete dual climate control heater-AC box from a salvage yard, from a low mileage car and swapped them out.

What would move me away from tackling this in a Dodge, and probably any newer car, is the depth of electronics that interface with the heating air conditioning that can complicate diagnosing and repairing the system.
