18 Dodge Charger SXT Oil Cooler Leak

If anyone was curious, the 18 charger 3.6 still is susceptible to leaks at the cooler. Found an oil spot underneath the car today after fiance went to Walmart. Sure enough she came back and I looked at the cooler. Yup. Definitely leaking. Quite a bit actually. Checked the oil and it was about 1/2 qt and 1qt low ( at the bottom hole on stick)
So this will be hopefully checked and replaced this weekend. Unfortunately she will need to drive this car til then. Better keep some oil in it.

How many miles on your Charger? The 3.6L plastic oil filter housing cap is very easy to overtighten. Places like Jiffy Lube, Walmart, etc, may not take the required care to make sure it's not damaged by overtightening.

If you are under 60k, you may be able to have the dealer repair it at no cost.

Good on the 105K. That assembly seems to be a when, not if repair. We see folks here with this issue, and it's not unusual to have the housing damaged by a lube tech cranking down on the cap, or failing in some fashion due to heat/age, etc.

All the data seems to back up this point. My 2014 T&C has 87K and is still leak-free. I've done every oil change since new and always carefully torque the cap to 18 pound-feet. That said, when I do plugs and coolant exchange next summer, I'm going to proactively replace the oil cooler with the aluminum Dorman unit. If not, with my luck I'd do all that work and a week later she'll start to spritz...

The oil filter housing doesn’t break only from over torque. The continuous exposure to heat from the engine also weakened the plastic. As the others basically said, you can’t really avoid it, it’s just a matter of when.
I lost one around 130k miles on my old Charger. I’m about to hit 156k on this one. I’m looking at the aluminum Dorman as Capt W is, before this one goes.

Replaced the oil cooler last night. Took longer than I wanted to due to work and then coming home to work on it for about 30mins per night or so. Hopefully some of the excess coolant and oil will burn off. I didn't see where the other one was leaking. I assume on of the o rings didn't seat well once the cold weather hit.
I still have to put the nuts on the intake brackets and let it idle and add coolant. Once that gets completed, gonna do an oil change in case some of the coolant got into the oil gallery and dirt. Hopefully everything goes well, fingers crossed
