If there was a "Middle America Meet & Greet" would you attend?

I have kicked this idea around in my head for a few months and have been in contact with someone at Kansas Motor Speedway about an LX event in April '09.

NOTHING IS FINALIZED, NOTHING IS SET IN STONE, THIS IS JUST IDEA KICKING

The idea is to have an area for a car show and vendor display. From pictures and information I have gathered, they have lots outside the speedway to accomodate over 300 vehicles. There is also ample space for "Vendor tents".

We have option of outside parking lots or garage area INSIDE the track. (Vendor room in both areas)

This would be a rain or shine event.

Should we choose inside, there is garage area space that could be rented (I didnt confirm lifts but I would assume one or two bays had them).

Choosing inside track presents an oppurtunity to do a few laps (escorted at track set speed).

There would be a food vendor set up as well as a few other necessities.

There would be as minor as possible registration fee for cars and vendors to help cover costs.

Based on those small tidbits of info, would you be interested?

That would interest me!

April would be very nice to get away. I will look forward to opening this to see how it unfolds. Good luck and I will try to get some Canadians and Michigan people to get involved.

The last middle meet thing planned on the lx was a flop and never happened.

I'm assuming you mean heartland park topeka?

heartland is a drag strip thats known world wide but kansas speedway is nascar stuff, with no drag strip. It would be only good as a show.

there are about 12 of us from the forum that live within about 10 miles of that track so let k.c. mopars know if you need help with this thing. We're in the group section and midwest threads.

Not dragstrip, Kansas Motor Speedway. And if this does come to fruition I will definitely accept the help, thanks

their liability will establish the ESCORTED speed, no passing, no slowing down to make room for big accelerations.

Violators will be removed. Their words, not mine, just putting it out there now

sorry everybody i wouldn't have the money or time to make the trip in the next couple of months.
Thats why I put a target date of APRIL 2009

ABSOLUTELY!!! You can count on Modern Mopar Muscle of Tulsa. We have a good size group of guys that are very active. Only Manicmechanic and I made it to Columbus. I can get the other guys to Kansas.

Hi Tom, sounds like an interesting idea.

Just to throw the idea out there, what about 3 or 4 laps around the track *per conditions above* included in the entry fee? (If it can still be a reasonable price.) I went to the KY Speedway "Day at the Track" event, and for every $40 you spent in the gift shop, you got a coupon for 3 laps around the track. I'm thinking that if the speedway gets enough people there (entry fee + spending money there), maybe they'd be willing to include some track time? Just a thought...

At KY Speedway, we were going 95-100 mph down the main straights and about 85-ish around the corners! With the tires I had on my car then (and no other safety gear) I would not have wanted to go faster than that anyway! It was fun! :driving:

True but I was also trying to have this a reasonable distance for anyone. Make it too far east and Cali/west coast folks dont show up, same if I go to far west. If anyone has any better suggestions please say so but this is about as central a location i could find

if it were early april of 2009 I might think about coming down from Manitoba, Canada.

But what's with this "escorted speed" thing? So I get to drive at 100mph with no passing, no going faster, not being able to test out top speed? Hmmm... sounds like the highway around my city. If that's the case, wouldn't really be worth the trip. Might want to look into more festivites.

As of yet the topic of set speed has not been finalized, I have been too busy trying to gather as much info as possible to share with the masses here. i do know the director has said that there will be no passing, that there will be escort cars and any deviation will result in that car being asked to leave up to losing track time altogether with no refund. If you dont like the idea of driving around a NASCAR racetrack, even in a controlled environment, then by all means you dont have to attend.

please tell me your ideas for "more festivities". Its not exactly going to be a Cruise ship weekend full of fun and sites and 3 zillion things to do. I did not attend Ohio but from what I have heard the weekend went EXTREMELY fast so i am thinking keep it to a minimal amount of things for more enjoyment. Im sure we can find ways to entertain ourselves.

But please, keep the input coming
Tom

Question: Well two along same idea.
What would you think would be a fair "registration" price for an area outside of the track without the laps?
What would you think would be a fair "registration" price for inside the track with the laps? (And yes, I know this depends on number of laps but humor me a little)

The only issue with this is that we would have to rent the location for all 3 days. Meaning no package rate. This would also mean an added cost for overnite security. But that is something to be decided later, thank you for the input
