ESCORT 8500 x50 ---- I've gone threw the Cobra's and all the crappy ones. Thats what they are is junk. IMO..... The Escort has been awsome - MUCH more notification and warning than the Cobra's. Another nice feature of the Escort is you can turn-off X mode which is not used by cops anymore anyway. That eliminates all the store-front false alarms. Hands down there is NO comparison if you have owned both.....
Don't know if that particular jammer has something different than the ones that have been sold for years, but those were all junk. One of the car magazines tested them a few years back and found them to be less than effective. They may pay your tickets for you (if radar cited), but that doesn't mean they'll pay the difference in your insurance rates or the possible state ramifications of getting too many tickets.
As for detectors, I'm partial to Escort models (hehe) and as Naperguy said, they Passport 8500 is top of the line. Myself, I don't like having a cord so I have a new Solo S2. Cuts down on range a little (unless you plug it in), but I don't really want to know a mile in advance as I'm more likley to think its a false read that far out.
You would be better off to just BURN your money than to spend it on a jammer. Rocky Mountain Radar Products are the biggest rip off that ever was. They say they pay the ticket, but when you try to get them to do it they tell you, "you used it wrong". THEY ARE CROOKS.
Been there, done that !! One that learned the hard way! -$$$
I have never had a radar detector, and have never really thought they are worth while... with cops going to laser technology... if it goes off with laser... itis just a warning that you will be pulled over soon, so go ahead and stop on the shoulder...
Plus should you get pulled over... and the cop sees a detector in the car... dont even think about being let off with a warning, as having that on the dash tells him you are an avid speeder....
Oh... and yes I have a clean driving record... and yes I usually drive faster then posted speed... however I keep it within reason
Cops are using laser lately. But your wrong on one note Daytona, if he his a car or cars in front of me the laser detects that first. My Escort 8500 x50 really works well - it doesn't come cheap $350. My local cops just went to laser and it does pick it up, just not as much notice, and if I'm leading the pack, then yes - I'm busted. I will say that all-in-all, the Escort does work and is updateable.....
I just ordered the Bel RX65. After much reading, it appears to be the killer radar detector if you are serious about detecting everything short of laser. For that, you just about have to have a shifter (jammer to us!).
Since Bel bought Escort, the RX65 is really a next gen Escort X50 until the next escort is released. Check out some awesome tests at radartest.com, along with a review of the new police charger:
Passport 8500 and Valentine 1 are the best by the ratings. There are some nice Bel models out now as well that get close. Understanding radar and laser are your first defense. I good detector is your second.
I picked up a V1 http://www.valentine1.com several years ago after a hefty "reminder" and some mandatory skooling (or else) on my dime. Since then I've been saved from, ahem, radar and laser reminders plenty of times. Except for one but I'll qualify that:
Paced on a parallel road at night. It was out of state and didn't bother fighting it.
Detectors may not warn you early enough against "instant-on" cowboys, lasers (depending on the handler) and when you can't see you're being paced.
I don't advocate speeding. I just like to see if them gadgets work.
The GREAT thing about the V1 is that it will give you a hit count and indicate the direction of the emission(s).
Just don't get caught with them in that commie state of vaginia (the ONLY state in the union they are illegal in!)
