2018 Dodge Charger Scat Pack - Alpine Audio stock/basic audio - Uconnect 8.4 w/ Nav

Here's the issue -

Have had this problem since I have purchased the vehicle back in March 18'. I have already taken it back to the dealer twice due to this issue. They have since replaced the Uconnect for it having a blue screen of death (this is not a joke) which I have on camera, but not for the bluetooth playback issue. The bluetooth will intermittently become choppy/skip a bit during playback/crackle during any and every song every 30 seconds or so, give or take. This is not something that is/can be caused or can be recreated - just happens over time during playback of any given song. I originally was using an LG V20 for the first few months of ownership of the car - now have moved on to a Galaxy Note 9 = did not make a difference in terms of curing the problem (yes, I have tried several phones on my Uconnect and it recreates the same issue which leads me to believe this is something bigger than the phone or even radio itself.) Problem is the dealer has already helped once and over time was found that it did not cure the problem so returning with the same issue is a challenge (plus I want to see if there is a remedy.) I was really hoping to see if there is any single person out there that has had this problem with their Uconnect and has a fix because the dealer was at a loss for words from start to finish of my service visits. My Uconnect has no updates available nor does my phone to solve the issue. This is the single most annoying thing to me as I spend a large amount of time per day with my travel to and from work and go figure - I mainly listen to my bluetooth. I stream through Spotify as well - the music is downloaded directly to my device so this cannot be from a connection issue, nor probable with every single song for that matter. Bluetooth calls over the radio is flawless and every other feature and performance of the Uconnect system is seamless as well. It is boggling to deal with this on a daily basis and try to figure it out and only have no-one understand the issue as it isn't common apparently. I've cleared the bluetooth cache as well as reset the radio both at the dealer and at home. I cannot figure this out. My last and only thing left to check in with would be the bluetooth module under the driver side dash, located above the pedals.. - PLEASE HELP!:confused:

I haven't experienced this problem. With that said, I have had various minor Bluetooth glitches with the RB5 in my Charger, so I'm curious: Have you tried pairing your radio to two different BT devices?

I'm wondering if you begin to experience the problem, and you switch to a different paired device using the same program material (Spotify, for example), will the second device suffer from the same issue?

Re: Bluetooth Issue

I'm having the same issue as well on my 2014 Charger with UConnect 8.4n. I've tried it with my note 9 and with an iPhone 7. Both had the same skipping issue when playing music. I had my radio replaced and the issue persisted, so the plan now is to replace my telematics module and see if that fixes the issue. Unfortunately there's nothing concrete in terms of a solution. Also I have the most up-to-date versions of the operating system, tested with different devices, and audio is crystal clear via aux cable.

So aside from having the unit replaced like originally mentioned. I had the dodge service center by me replace the telematics module. The swap did the trick. Not only does the bluetooth no longer skip when I play music from my Samsung Galaxy Note9, but it now displays the song, artist and album or the track!

Will update again after some time has passed to report on consistency.

Wait, are you saying on your 2014 Uconnect, they replaced the telematics module with a new one, and now, instead of just the name of your phone all the time, it displays the track info?

Glad to help, it was a process and unfortunately not an inexpensive one.

Spikemonkey, yeah, swapping the actual radio didn't do anything, but the new telematics module fixed all my issues. So when it used to just say "Samsung Galaxy Note9" on the display when I was connected via bluetooth playing music, now it displays song title, artist and album.

Do you have a part number? and a Cost?? I'm having the same issue and probably done everything you did to fix it with no success. Mine seem to do it like every 2-3 time I'm in the car so i'm not as frustrated as you but still, same issue and similar frustration. If this is the fix, I'm all in. Prior I had an S7, then Note9 and both phones had the same issue so I knew it wasn't the phone but not the cause.

Thanks!

This, this, so much this! If I can get that info to show on my older Uconnect it would be amazing! Please tell me you can get that info for us!

Hey!

I don't have a part number for the telematics modules, but the part plus labor is running me close to $800. So not exactly the cheapest thing in the world. But for me, I travel an hour in each direction for work, so I was going crazy. Definitely worth it.

If you speak to your service lead/tech at the Dodge service center they'll most likely be able to look it up and order you the part.

If there is any way you could find out for us still, it would be appreciated. There are so many variants of the modules, we'd want to be sure we got the right one without ending up with what we already have, basically. No pressure, just if you can.

I'm just waiting to pick up the car, once I get the car back and the paperwork I will post up the part number and cost.

Re: Solution!

Okay, so...pricing....

The part is called:

TELEMATICS MODULE
part #: 68342289AA
Cost: $530.25 (not including labor costs)
Labor: charged for an hour at $165/hr

I asked the technicians; the module they put in was the same part number that was already in my car. So it would seem they did not replace my module with a newer version, but that there may be a wide spread defect with the ones that are stock. Unfortunately, it's not a well known enough issue to be considered for a recall.

Also, I was having a rattling issue on the passenger side of my car when the music played, I could hear the rattling even over the music. While my car was in, there was a recall that was announced for the passenger side airbag inflator. After it was replaced, the rattling ceased.

So if you are also experiencing that issue too, that could be the source, get rid of two birds with one stone.
