Hello im new to the forums. Been having a problem with my 2006 dodge charger 3.5 high output . Recently while getting on the interstate. I got up to about 80mph trying to merge into traffic and when I let go of the gas pedal to set the cruise control, the transmission completely went out ?????? I either have to let car slow down to 1000 rpms and it will catch back in or ill have to pull to side of road and cut car completely off , then once its restarted the car runs fine ?? Also i've noticed about once a week when getting in car first thing in the morning . it will not get passed 55mph then wants to start jumping ?? once again I pull to side of road , cut off and restart and its completely fine !!! it has Absolutely no problems shifting in between gears. shifts very smooth. just having these two issues .... any ideas ????

Id start by checking the fluid level and have it scanned for transmission codes. If the fluid level is ok I would have the pan dropped and fluid and filter changed. If its a NAG1 also drop the valve body. Chances are the speed sensors have buildup of clutch material on them and need to be cleaned off.

I've never heard this before! I wonder if that's what could possibly be causing me to get the P0730 "Incorrect Gear Ratio" code? The speed sensors are probably magnetic similar to the sensors at your wheel hubs correct?

Yes. It is a cause however if you are getting that code due to material on the sensor start saving for a trans. It may last you 10k miles or 100 miles but when it sheds enough to make that sensor pissed off you are shedding a lot of clutch material.

My car has 12,000 miles on it. It's a 2012 SRT8. If anything it would be Chrysler's expense, not mine. I've gotten the code twice, both times were a little while after there was traction loss involved (intentional). When this code pops up, there is a very harsh "bang" from the drivetrain and a total loss of engine power for a few seconds. Scary. I got a few pictures of the CEL popped up on the car with my scanner plugged in reading the code, which i'm going to present to the dealer as soon as possible.

These transmissions are very susceptible to the amount of friction modifiers in the fluid! As these units get very hot, they cook out the modifiers and the clutches slide creating even more friction wiping off the clutch material.

This is why we suggest a pan drain and fill every 40k miles to keep them in good shape! We add 18% more friction modifiers in our QuantumBlue so that during that time the transmissions grab better and last much longer!

Also raise the temperature that the fluid can handle by 200 degrees so that it maintains integrity and won't cook the modifiers out of the fluid!;)

Brian

Please let us know the dealer's assessment.

Ahhhh....you're hitting limp mode during loss of traction. You may get an input speed code but yours is a different cause and probably not from material on the sensor.

It doesn't happen while i'm spinning my tires, it always seems to happen at the most random time afterwards. Usually while I'm driving normally. It's not limp mode either. It's just a very harsh "bang" from the drivetrain and no throttle response for like 3 or 4 seconds. That's when the CEL pops up. After a few seconds the throttle response comes back and the car drives normally again, however there is a P0730 code "incorrect gear ratio" stored. From the information I have gathered online, this could be caused by a few things. Transmission fluid level (which I had checked by the dealer and it was said to be good), debris stuck in the valve body, broken valve body, and/or bad speed sensors.
