Gauges!

Got the 3gauge pod installed by propod today. Boost gauge A/F ratio and Oil Pressure all Autometer Phantom Gauges. One Awesome tip for anybody wanting to run an Oil Pressure gauge, there is this sweet adapter by the company GLOWSHIFT, its an adaptor that sandwiches on top of your oil filter and has 3 predrilled connections for oil pressure oil temp or even an oil feed line! awesome little adapter saved me from drilling or tapping anything!

Install time!

so got most of the kit installed guys. tomorrow ill be finishing up the Fuel upgrades and tuning hopefully!! ive gotta say its a really awesome "kit", great instruction manual with full color pix really easy to follow. didn't really get hung up on anything other than waiting for my custom base tune and also, a mid of modification was required on the exaust side because I had a custom exhaust which changed some of the stock pipe angles. other than that pretty smooth going! hope to be tuned and running by this weekend!

Also!

lol on a side note, last week installed a pair of Long tube headers and High flow cats!! talk about a freaking JOB!!! if i'd known it was gonna be that tough I would have paid to get em installed lol! but so worth it in the end, the tone is so much more, not raspy but just growly, meaner lol if that makes sense. sounds like a cam'ed LS1 when the RPMs wind up Im glad I got em on there! :rocker:

Im not a mechanic of any sort and never installed an after market turbo, so this may sound like a dumb question for you, but what is that 3rd exhaust looking pipe on the far right for and what is that set up at your exhaust tip? My wife has a turbo on her Mazda, but its factory so it doesn't have that stuff.

Also what kind of power are you looking at with this turbo? I see most people on here going with supers.

No worries man, this is a remote mounted turbo, it mounts on the rear of the vehicle instead of the engine bay. that long pipe your seeing is the charge pipe pushing air forward into the intake/engine.. I should be around 450hp at the wheels and almost 550ft/lbs of torque!! pretty sweet set up!

Does that distance cause a significant loss of turbo pressure/lack of volume compared to an engine mounted turbo?

In a way it seems like it'd might, but if u think about it, it's a pressurized system, so unless u have a bad exhaust leak or something wrong in the system the pressure/volume is pretty close to an engine mounted turbo.

Are you putting this on a 80K stock motor?

yes the Motor is right at 80k so im hoping to still get some good use out of it but im looking to build or swap the motor for a PWR unit when ever it decides to give out on me so for now ill be running 5-6psi which a safe number for these stock motors, it seems 9-10 psi is when things start to break in them. Also, a turbo works the same way on an Auto as it would a manual trans equipped car. if not better as you don't lose any boost between shifts since you don't have to lift off of the throttle. how ever I usually use the Manual shift mode and lift off a bit anyways just to be easy on the tranny/drive-train. im hoping to have her on a dyno by the end of the month or so, well see, for now im working on the street tune getting it dialed in but first waiting on a new header Gasket. ive got an exaust leak so I haven't pushed it past about 2 psi but even at 2 psi I had a 6.0 GTO on the highway that was unable to catch me so im excited to see what the full 5 pounds of boost will do!

I had a rear mounted turbo prior to the 426 stroker. Be very careful with your boost levels because unless you had some ring gap work done prior to the turbo install you risk ring failure. Of course, with proper tuning and under low PSI boost you should be OK. Just make darn sure that the tuner can show proven results with tuning forced air engines and talk with thier customers who have turbo packages too. Hate to have you go through the same experience I had. Don't let your car be used as thier lab rat.

Thanks Bronco! I appreciate the info!! yeah im staying low on the boost and very conservative on the tune. im working with the tuner myself as im able to monitor everything with my laptop and adjust the tune myself also so im definitely staying on the safe side!! Sorry to hear about your experience but looks like your up and running with a better package now!
