This thread is for all you haters out there....CHECK YOURSELVES!! Frankly it makes me almost gag to read what some of you are writing...you know, " How dare they call this a Charger...it's an Edsel or a maverick or enter your favorite car to hate here." The comments that really piss me off are the dumb asses who say there going to Ford to buy their tired redesign of a 68 mustang. To them I say good riddance, don't let the door hit you in the ass(your brain) on the way out. Before you write this off as the ramblings of some young punk, I am 38 and have owned and built my fair share of muscle cars. The last car I finished was a 1968 tempest 2-door with a built 455. Trust me, If you want a classic muscle car they are still out there...Buy one! The fact of the matter is I have small children and a 2-door just doesn't work for me anymore. The problem is I love muscle cars and always will...I am not wealthy enough(nor are most people) to afford 3 cars, so one must make compromises. Thank you DCx for putting people like me first. As far as the name is concerned, I applaud the decision. If it pisses off a few people who continue to dwell in the past, so be it. Last time I looked it was 2005 not 1968. Don't get me wrong, as I said I love old muscle cars. But thats the point, THEY ARE OLD!! I know MOPAR guys are a rabid bunch, which makes me wonder why very few are actually positive about this car. I mean hell, its got a hemi ,rwd, big ass wheels and tires....I am at a loss

This car is not supposed to compete against the Mustang or GTO as the early Chargers didn't compete against the Mustang...Remember, that's why the Challenger was made.

This car WILL compete against the Grand Prix(fwd), Impala(fwd), all "classic" nameplates from the past. At least these lx cars are rwd/awd.

b.t.w. here's a look you should get to know as you drive around in your blue oval piece of shit....

actually, if you didn't know, there's a new grandprix model coming out that will have a V8, I think it'll be called the GTX (instead of the GTP superchargedV6), but i think they're keeping it fwd, which is kinda weird, but still competition

its got a "hemi" v8 and its suppose to compete with a granprix? thats very sad man, that is like a evo vs a 05 mustang. no contest evo all the way.
That's the point. This is, essentially, a family sedan. It is competing with the Grand Prix, Impala, Camry, Accord, etc... Making it THAT MUCH better.

I'm over my bitterness - I'm glad that Dodge had the balls to design something completely new and call it the Charger. That's how things evolve and get better. Not every step is 100% perfect, but I think this is a good one (certainly better than the mid-80s "Charger" 2.2s and whatnot!).

As for car companies screwing up a car - think about 80s Mustangs - the ones that looked like Escorts. Yeah.

The more I think about it, the more I like this Charger.

stop yer bitchin....it'll flop like the GTO. and in a few years we won't have to worry about it. Its not that great looking, power is decent for a muscle car name plate, and no matter how you cut it, a charger was NEVER ment to be a 4 door. You guys can get excited over the thing all you want, but Dodge could care less, they are just trying to sell cars.

Isn't the GTO a 2-door? hmmm....maybe dodge is on to something. I think the great thing about this is they can really go in any direction with this car, coupe, convertable...whatever...they might change or tweak the styling in a couple of years...b.t.w. "junior" do you have kids? I'm sure most who owned the classic chargers didn't....but we're grown up now. plus look at all the 4-door sports cars...evo, wrx, srt-4, and the list could go on and on. power is decent? didn't they put 318 2bbls in chargers? now there is some serious power...give me a break!

in case some of you people didn't know, this car was meant to be a family sedan, replacing the INTREPID, not a sports car but with some sporty cues. Say it with me, "family sedan." The original charger wasn't a full-on sports car but it hasve grunt, and this new charger, not a sports car, a family sedan, has grunt to it too. Now, if anyone is thinking about the old charger with a brand new bigblock with a twin carb supercharger just poking out the damn hood, of course you're gonna complain, but listen, did it come out of the factory with all the performance mods?
Lets be patient, for all of those who like it fine for those who don't, who cares, but if you want more performance, just wait a few months for an aftermarket or if you got the $$$, get a damn SRT-8 cHARGER when it comes out.

I'm just appalled that we're all supposed to bend over and accept your opinion as the only right one. Everyone's entitled to their own, that's why not everyone drives the same car. That and not everyone can afford a 550 Maranello...

He's not saying his opinion is the only right one, but that we know the 2 door crowd is unhappy, the whole world knows that. And the Charger faithful are unhappy. Point is, the car is set, the time to change the basic design is past. Either live with it, or find another car.

Do you think the Mercury Cougar faithful didn't ***** about the "Chicklet" as they call it? That the "Performance Luxury with style" that Cougar represented was being prostituted to sell a few cars, wasn't protested? Of course it was. With the same effect.

Honestly, I see the point, that the Charger name is tied to two door, performance cars. For me, four doors works fine. And will for the next ten years. Paying $38K for the SRT-8 works for me. And my wife and two kids. Folding a seat is a pain I can live without. If your going to have four working seats, four working doors go with.

Sorry they named it wrong. That's done. If you can't live with that, you are doomed to spend a long time complaining, good luck with that.

that is like saying the sky is green....there is no such thing as a 4 dor sports car. here is the blunt fact: This car is a sales pitch to older people to make them feel young again. what you should do...insted of dropping the money on this over prices, over used platform, go buy yourself the REAL charger and find a nicely used 4 door seden. Best of both worlds :)

RX-8? Sports car or no? Lets face it, the original muscle cars didn't fit the classic definition of "sports cars" either, except the Corvette, of course.

I would disagree with your "blunt fact", which is really your opinion, not fact:)

Now, on the the "overpriced, over used platform" thing:) How is it overpriced? Compared to what? An Accord? A Camry? And as far as the overused, again, how so? Platform sharing is quite common, just ask the new Mustang and the Lincoln LS, and the Jag that all share:) Or the Lexi and Acuras of the world? Or almost any carbased small utes:)

I note the emphasis on "REAL" charger. I think you are exactly who chargershed was talking to. I don't spend my time on new model Cougar boards bitching about how screwed up it is that the Cougars have been perverted from their proud heritage into wimpy FWD secretary cars. Why not? More importantly, WHY?!!No earthly purpose.

And I don't want a classic "real" charger and a four door sedan. The 68 Cougar does me just fine for muscle car, thanks. I happen to want big RWD power, modern
technology AND four doors. Under 40K, please. Which car should I buy?

I guess it would depend on your definition of "sports car". it's like saying Lance Armstrong isn't an athlete because he doesn't play football or basketball or baseball...it's a ridiculous statement. I mean I respect your opinion, but it is just that. lets look at it from another angle... 350 h.p. 5 speed autoshift transmission, 4 wheel independent suspension, 4wheel disc brakes w/antilock 18 inch wheels and tires...what am I describing? a 2006 Porsche Carrera S AND a 2006 Dodge Charger R/T ! or maybe a diffrent senario... is a Miata a "sports car"? which would be quicker around road america? more examples...How about the Audi rs6 or AMG e55 or BMW m5..you don't think these cars couldn't hold their own against a Boxster? The bottom line is this...if the only reason you don't like this car is because it is named Charger, whatever I say isn't going to change your mind. But, please find a car that you do like, and post on those boards... last I looked it was dodge charger forums, not anti-DCx forums. :p

Extremely well said...b.t.w. who are the "older people". What age would you constitute as older?

Heckifiknow what older is:) I'm 40 myself, never plan to stop driving exciting cars:) When my right foot drops below 50lbs, put a bullet in me, I'm done:) We hava an old lady around town, maybe 75, she's driving a Marauder, and quite well, I might add:)

Curious as to what Juniors age is myself:)

I didn't care that the concept had 4 doors and I don't care that the production model has 4 doors. The diffrence is the concept was a sweet ride and this car is butt ugly. I also concider the 300 and the Magnum sweet cars. I saw the Charger in person and still think the car is ugly. It's not even a nice 4 door sedan.

I can respect that, I don't care for the Magnum...like the 300 but think the Charger is the best design...It's just a matter of taste. I think by now it is clear that you either love it or hate it, there is just no middle ground.

My whole point on this thread was to defend this Charger from the onslought of negative comments  ...Just like the newGTO fans did...hey I can understand if you think the car is ugly  , but to trash it because you don't like the name or because it has 4 doors or you feel betrayed or whatever just doesn't make sense to me. Most everyone seems to agree that the 300 is a great car...this car should perform just as good(which is pretty good..Motor Trend COY) with a diffrent look. I'd like us to come together as a community to swap kill stories, or what performance mods work the best or even how to improve the looks if you so desire. I feel very confident in saying all the folks who are on here "killing" this car will NEVER purchase one, so how is that helping me, the person who WILL buy one. I want a place where owners and "fans" can get together without feeling they have to defend themselves for what they like. My opinion is neither right or wrong, just mine.
Getting off my soapbox now. ;)
