If the stock airbox on a 3.5 and the CAI both route the air filter from the engine to the same spot in the engine bay, and both pull their air from the same area, what is the benefit of the CAI other than just having a larger filter (of course therefor more flow) than the stock box?

The cotton gauze filter on the cai allows more air through than the paper filters, therefore, more air=more power. On the down side, the cotton gauze also allow more dirt through too.

On my C&L CAI you modify the lower box and remove the flap between the headlight and radiator and it pulls air in from the front as well as the bottom. The sounds is awesome and I definitely have more power!
