OK, i've been thinking about this for a while now, i know if I get the charger, it will be with the V8 and then i'll get a set of dual flowmasters done to it and really get it to scare people at WOT. One problem though, when cruising, won't it sound like shit with only 4 cylinders firing? Hopefully not like a ricer :(

Stock exhuast should sound fine. Suggest you go take a test ride in a V8 Magnum or 300C, the exhuast note should be similar. Or just get the SRT version, whos exhaust should be optimized for both power and sound:)

for now, deifinitely not planning on the srt8 version, just r/t, unless someone's willing to give up some $$$ so i can get an srt8.

but your not thinking what im thinking. Reason for me getting the flowmasters done on the charger would be so that V8 exhaust will be loud as hell, but im afraid as soon as it runs on 4s it'll sound weird. Hopefully someone will get it done before me and get a clip so'll i'll know if it sounds bad.

I'ts only running on four cylinders during steady state cruise, when your exhaust should be to quiet to hear anyway, even with flowmasters.

haha, if it'll be quiet on 4 with the flows then it'll be my favorite sleeper. Pull up on a ricer. Mine's quiet, his /hers buzzing at idle. They rev, i rev, now they're thinking, what the hell?!?
Let the fun begin.

GLHS are you actually suggesting that he keep his exhaust STOCk!!!! That is just wrong. Naw but you r right, the exhaust(even aftermarket) should be tuned so that at low RPMs you would not hear a thing. But my suggestion is if it sounds bad running on 4's never let off the gas :D :D

All reviews of MDS equipped cars say that you can't really tell when MDS is active, and I have to assume if there was a change in exhaust note, they would have mentioned it as a way of telling. Since the 4-6-8 fiasco by Cadillac years ago, the motoring press has been very leery of MDS type systems, so they are watching this with a very critical eye.

Wow A hemi! I'd have to take out a second mortgage.... How long have you had it? My dad bought a fully restored 69 R/T SE 440 in 1996. He paid $20K for it.....

also, 69 was the only year that had the split grille... and the 68's had different taillights than the 69-70 variety.

another forum infected by the "hijack" virus. Haha, its cool though, since the charger forums really only have 4 sections only realating to the new charger which isn't even out yet.
Sorry bout that...back to the original question...at cruise rpm, the new Charger should be quiet either in 8/4 cylinders...I do think that there will be less of a "drone" sound with the flowmasters or any other decent muffler. If you were running the 2-chamber race muffler then it may sound like crap at cruising speed...but who really knows. I guess you're going to have to give it a try and let us know :)

Actually, he brings up a very good question. I agree with glhs, in that with the stock exhaust, I don't think you will notice any difference. And even with an aftermarket, since the cylinders will only be deactivated while cruising, therefore very little exhaust note, you probably still won't notice much of a difference, but maybe just a little. I would get an aftermarket exhaust not only for sound, but to free up some hp over the restrictive stock system. That's how they freed up an extra 10hp for the Daytona versions.
