I have a remote start that came with the car. 9 out of 10 times, it works like it should, but then it won't. I can't figure out what the issue is, or where to start to troubleshoot. All the windows are shut tight, doors locked. When it doesn't work, I've opened all the doors and shut them again, no go. I've opened and closed the trunk, no go. The only thing that seems to reset the issue is starting the car, just for a sec, then shut off, lock'er up, then it works again. Any ideas?

Next time it does it, look for a message on your dash. Mine did that once and the evic displayed something like "remote start disabled, start car to reset" I'm curious if you're seeing the same thing.

@OP:

1) Do you have sufficient fuel in the vehicle tank those times when remote start doesnt work?

2) Was the vehicle not used for 2-3 days when the remote start feature not function? (probably low battery voltage for whatever reason - happens to me intermittently)

These are the only two cases I've noticed for my vehicle.

I rarely let it go below a quarter tank. Yesterday when it happened I had a full tank. And had driven it the day before.

Also, there have been times where I tried it a couple times, failed, then waited 5 minutes and tried it again and it worked.

Hi TechnoJunky,

Sorry to hear about your concern. I recommend bringing your vehicle to an FCA dealership for formal diagnosis. There is a TSB (# 08-020-10) that may apply to your concern. The TSB involves reprogramming the TIPM with new software when the remote start is intermittently inoperative. A screengrab is attached below.

Hope this helps! Keep us posted!

If you dont get two good presses on the button, it won't fire off.

I have done that before, thought I presses twice but did it to fast or didn't press hard enough the second time.

nope, I know I'm pressing hard enough because the horn will honk once when it refuses to work and twice when it does work. And I try once or twice, unlock and relock the doors, try another time, wait 5 minutes, try one last time, then give up. Earlier in the thread, Jack shows a service bulletin that describes the issue. I need to have the TiPM flashed.

Thanks for responding.

i have the same issue every other day.
unlocking & relocking the doors seems to clear it up.
Hi DjMere,

If this is a concern that you would like to look into getting repaired, I recommend taking your vehicle to an FCA dealership as well. See post #5 in this thread for a TSB that I provided for TechnoJunky to reference to his dealer. This may be related.
