Sorry I had previously posted this in the wrong thread...

Okay folks I need a few things clarified as to the sound system and upgrading it in my car. I have an 06 SE model. As far as I can tell it has whatever the base sound system is.

If I install a new headunit, do I need anything more than the harness that would that would connect to the unit? I understand that aftermarket speakers would sound better, but would I have to change the stock speakers in order for the system to sound decent?

I have an 8" Kicker sub that I may want to place in the rear deck. Would it work with my stock system as it is?

Thanks for your help and I apologize if I've missed this in the forums. But with the different models and setups available on the Chargers, I'm just a little confused.:knockout:

Don't change head unit and speakers yet. Put a good box and amp in the trunk, and turn your bass down on your head unit. With the bass lower, the sound is better. If it's not enough, then go with head unit and speakers. I know a lot of people that did it this way, and love it. When I went to get my sound, they talked me out of a full system, and I'm glad they did.

If you change your head unit, it won't sound good without good speakers. When you do all that, then you'll wish you had a amp on those speakers. Turn your radio on and lower your bass to nothing, then crank it up. It sounds good, now if you had a box in the trunk for all bass, it would rock.

Thanks DMR. I'm still leaning toward swapping out the radio for an aftermarket. I also forgot to mention that I do already have a set of components that I could install in the doors. Does anyone know if I will need anything more than the harness that comes with an aftermarket radio to get it connected. I know I've seen that there's a metra harness that may be needed but I'm not sure if that applies to the standard system that I have.

When I put in my new head unit, I bought a wiring harness adaptor so that I wouldn't have to cut the factory harness, then a sony wiring harness and spliced the two together. I also had to buy a mounting kit because the factory radio is a DIN and a half, and most aftermarket stereos that aren't nav systems are single DIN, so this kit adds another pocket under the stereo and fills in the semi-circle gaps from the 2 knobs on the factory stereo. Best Buy did not have the dash kit, I got it at an car stereo specialist. You'll also need an antena adaptor because the chrysler antena cable is different from the standard. Let me know if there's anything else you need.
