Called my dealer about my car status. He told me the protection group is on hold unitl atleast August  . Meaning no car would be built until September with that option.

And since I was gone on my honeymoon he dropped the package to get the car built (I'm 1 of 4 allocations for this month). I can't wait until September.... and who knows it could be longer the way they keep moving the date.

Just wanted to let everyone know.

I just don't get why. The system can't be that different that what is in the Magnums and 300c... or are they?

Im also worried that they will just keep pushing the date back. How long have they been making Chargers and still haven't been able to get the protection package on track?

Grrrrr. I just checked with my dealer and he confirms, too, that the system says no protection group in August. He doesn't know what could be different between the Magnum and Charger for the option but he's going to check with the regional sales (someone or other) to see what's going on.

I don't suppose anyone from Dodge is still keeping up with these boards. If so, any input from your end on the protection group? Dealers don't seem to be able to get a real answer and DCX customer service knows even less.

I just removed the protection group from my Charger order. The only reason I ordered the protection group was for the side airbags. The dealer could not tell me what problem there is with the protection group but I could not order the side airbags separately.
I can install the cabin air filter myself, and I don?t want the self sealing tires. What else is included in the protection group?
Of course the Dealer would only say ?removing the protection group may speed production?

I will wait a few days and see if my status changed.

Protection package has: curtain airbags, plus side seat airbags, the self sealing tires and the cabin air filter. And im sure it will speed the production. My car is the 1 of his 4 allocations for this month after i dropped the protection package. This dealer actually has 13 Chargers on his lot.

I hope it does speed production.
By the way what are "side seat airbags"
I have the catalog at home but just remember side air bags, which I though where the curtain air bags. I may have missread the package info.

They are air bags in the seat bolsters
My catalog doesn't say anything about air bags in the seats.
I can not think of any reason for an airbag in the seats unless it is an blatter for adjusting the side supports.

Please let us know where this info came from.

Air Filtering
P225/60R18 99T AST Self-Sealing Tires
Front and Rear Side Window Curtain Air Bags
Supplemental Side Air Bags**

Above from the Dodge website, note both kinds. The supplemental would be the seat ones. These would be in the top, shoulder area bolsters. And do just that, supplement the curtains.

This does not say anything about air bags in the seats but indicates to me that the side curtain air bags are supplemental air bags.

Where does it say "air bags in the seats"?
These are the same seats that are in the SRT-8 cars and no one has mentioned anything about air bags in them.
Yes I'm a skeptic. I would think if there were air bags in the seats it would be stated that way.

Safety equipment: Dual front airbags, front-seat side airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control

From what I can find, it's common to refer to all seat based ones as "Side airbags", while curtains are always called out as that, "side curtian" or "curtain side" airbags.

Curtains are located in the upper doorframe, side ones are always in the seats, since they want it to always be in the same position in relation to the occupant.

The reason I knew that is because my wife ordered a vibe and it was decribed the same way. When we got the car it had labels on the seats telling me there were air bags in there, and it still had the curtain bags. Plus we couldn't get leather seats because they had not designed the patern for the seats that would allow the air bag to deploy correctly. Something about leather needing to be "cut".... maybe thats the holdup for the Charger.

I still think your reading the statement wrong.

?Front-seat side airbags? means there are side airbags for the front only
In that same article the author says,
and massive SRT-only bolstered seats wear wings large enough to wear a Boeing label.
but doesn't say anything about airbags.

I called the dealer and he said they know nothing about airbags in the seats. Of course my dealer sometimes has his head up his own ass.

AFcharger,
You could be right and that may be why DCX is not advertising a seat based airbag. If they fix whatever problem their having may be they will advertise this feature. until then as far as I?m concerned this feature does not exist.

I called the dodge information desk (1-800-423-6343) and asked about the airbags.
A Charger with protection group has 4 airbags. One in the steering wheel, one in the passenger?s dash, and two side curtain airbags above the windows driver and passenger sides.
Anyway
I dropped the protection group option yesterday and today my charger got a VIN number and is set for production. They did not have a build date yet, but at least it not on hold anymore.

Sorry, man, I don't trust the info line for technical matters. These folks read from the sheet, with no personal knowledge of whatever your asking.

My contention, which we appear not to be able to prove or disprove at the moment, but I will come back to eventually, is....

The Daytonas and SRTs come with side airbags built into the upper seat bolsters and the front airbags.

The protection group adds the side curtains. I hope to pin this down soon, but we'll see.
