I just completed a 360 mile round trip to Ottawa on 91 octane and averaged 23.7MPGs with 3 adults and a 12 year old in the car as well as a loaded trunk...just for comparison's sake.
10-4 on that. I just entered some of the outstanding fuel receipts into my spreadsheet (I have one per car) and saw that in May on a trip back from Toronto, I filled up just before hitting the highway and filled up again 1 whole day after returning to work (that's commuting in traffic to daycare, then more traffic to work, then traffic to daycare, and heavier traffic back home, then filling up the next day). The result: 25.something MPG US.

That was with 2 kids and 2 adults in the car, also with a full trunk.

If I had taken the time to fill up immediately upon arrival, who knows what kind of fantastic result I would have logged! :knockout:

That was a steady 105-110 kph the whole way, with 2 food stops along the 401. Esso 87 on the way down.

hey Steve...I'm sure if I drove like grandma all the time, i'd achieve those number that you had!
:) LOL!

Fact is, the 401 is a killer, and I mean in a mortality sort of way. EVERY time I make the MTL-TO-MTL run I ALWAYS run into a deadly accident. This past May it was on the way down to TO, at 10pm traffic was backed up for miles with no way to get off the highway. Finally, we all managed to funnel out through an exit into some small backroads, and that's where my NAV really came through for me and got me back on the highway after the incident. Imagine the feeling of pride as I turned off into a small back road while all the other cars kept heading for the small town in order to follow the "official highway" path! :)

As one gets older the self-preservation gene usually kicks in, and when on a highway like the 401, you just try to follow traffic and minimize zig-zagging.
