So This weekends project was getting some stripes put on the car. I decided to go with plasti dip and it turned out awesome. Here are some pictures (rear quarter panels and body line stripes)

Next thing to get done is get rid of the chrome on the rocker panels and wheel wells.

What am I missing here? Everyone raving about plastidip. I tried it, it dried, looked nice but if you rub it with a finger at the edge it peals off. What good is that? So, considering how it sticks, how do you ever wash or detail the car ever again? ( and yes the surface was clean and wax free before I applied it)

I just don't get it.

It's an alternative to powder coat. Depends on when you rubbed it? If the plasti dip didn't have the time to set and cure of course it's going to come off. I'll be able to wash and detail my car by next weekend because it will have a week to sit and cure with the car. I've seen up to 1800 psi power washers used on plasti dip, no problems with it coming off at all. I'll update the thread next weekend when I wash it and give everyone my results

I will never understand why anyone would even chance spraying this stuff on their paint. Especially with all the horror stories out there.

All those stories are from people who don't buy the spray able type of plasti dip and then they mix paint thinner into the dip so they can spray, dumbest thing ever. I researched it for a few weeks before I finally made the move to do it.

I will say that i never mixed mine. Came straight out of the spray can onto my wing. The sun baked the stuff on there!!! It eventually took me hours to get the crap off. :icon_flaming:

I do like the look as i also had my trunk blackout done with the plasti too. IF you like it then thats all that matters.:bigthumb:

There are 2 different gallons out there. Like already stated, one is already mixed and nothing else is required. This is the one that should be used over large areas. Then there is the regular gallon of dip. This is the one that most people that are having issues are using. This has to be mixed with thinner to be able to be sprayed through a gun. This is also the same mix that is bought in the rattle cans at Lowe's. These are fine for small areas or areas with bends. Wheels is a good example, not the hood or trunk of your car.
In the end to each their own, and it is a cheap way to set your ride different from others and change it over the course of a day.....

I gotta say its one of the best alternatives for spray paint. Who gives two ****s if it takes hours or days to completely take off, but it's off.

How did you mask the stripes? Did you spray one heavy coat and peel the tape before it dried, or several lighter coats with removing the tape between coats? I've tried leaving the tape down until it dries and it just peals the plastidip up with the tape cause it's "connected" to the overspray on the tape.

Not sure what he did, but what I would do is lightly score with an Xacto knife before pealing the masking tape. That's what I always do when I paint with acrylic for that same reason. :beerchug:

I've tried that on my wheels(cutting with a razor blade) and it never works out that good and usually ends up leaving a sharp edge that peels up easy

Plus I would be afraid I would go too deep and scratch the paint.

I did light coats, but the trick is you tape over the same line 3 or 4 times basically layering the tape from the inside to out and then pull the innermost layer off right after you do that coat and the line will gradually get bigger. Kind of hard to explain easier to show..

I am going to give this a try. I will post before and after pics... Whether it works for me or not.
