So I have a friend who is going to be painting my chrome clads for me and I'm wondering if it would be a better option to do a glossy black or matte black on them. Of course many of the chargers have the gloss black 20" rims, but does anyone have any pics of a matte 20" rim or an aftermarket painted gloss rim? Right now I'm leaning towards a matte color. Here is my charger, tell me what color you think i should do!

OP, before you do so...few things I'd like for you to find out..

Assuming you are going to 'sand' the chrome clad wheels before you start the painting application..do you think the surface beneath the chrome is suitable for paint?

Since you cannot powder coat these wheels, will the paint be more susceptible to peeling/flaking over time? or does this all depend on the quality of the job?

Once you finish painting them...assuming you took the wheels off prior..will mounting the wheels on again damage the paint on the outermost lip of the wheel?
IIRC some wheels if not all have these little beads that could damage the paint on the outermost lip as the wheel technician mounts them once again..

Oh...and if you happen to paint the inner barrel...dont forget to remove the wheel weights before you begin!

Good luck and let us know how it goes..

Thanks for the advice! As to whether or not it will flake or peel, these are just until I need new tires. I'm going to 22" in about 6-8 months. Only reason I'm painting is because the person doing it is only charging for cost of paint!

I would go gloss black because of the color of your car, mine are p-dipped and are a matte black but it adds contrast to the vehicle because my car is black.

How are the tires? Do they come with the caps, lugs, and sensors? Are the wheels in at least decent condition?

I like the look of the gloss black rims, and am trying to figure out what a good price for a set of four Dodge OEM rims are. I have a guy selling a set of brand new ones for $850. What do you think of these? Y or N? Thinking about picking them up today. :grin2:
I'm guessing that's a new set of tires to go with the wheels, but you never know. If everything is on the up & up that's a great deal for that wheel/tire package.
