So I changed the oil on my 2011 charger 3.6(v6) the other day and everything seems to be running fine. Went with recommended everything 6quarts of 5w30(castro synthetic blend going to be moving to full synthetic next change) reads fine when cold but when it gets hot it looks pretty dry down to the bottom. Had some stuff fixed and my mechanic told me to add another quarter as it looks dry told him I used recommended amount 6 quarts but told me I should add another & I've been thinking about it.

Anyone have any experiences/recommendations on this problem? What do u think 6 1\2 - 7 quarts in a v6 3.5 liter or is it to little? With 6 quarts it still looks dry while hot but not while cold.

Any/all help much appreciated.

If you’re using recommended oil type for the car it’s not unheard of to put a little extra in. It won’t hurt the car as long as it’s not excessive.

It takes a little time after shutdown for oil to fully drain back into the oil pan. So if the level is consistently correct when cold as you say, then I would leave alone.

The 3.6 can take 0W-20, 5W-20 or 5W-30 depending on the make and year vehicle its installed in.
