I had the check engine light go on and went and had the code scanned but in the process of finding the port it had a cover with 2 wires coming out of it a black and a red wire. Anyone know what it may be? I’ve never seen anything on obd ports on vehicles I owned before. I’m new here and couldn’t find anything on this
It’s a 2014 charger SE used. I’m not sure what it leads to as I stopped at an auto shop to get it checked out really quick before work. I’m assuming the previous driver has/had something after market installed
The picture I posted is of a GPS tracker. It could be something like that if the vehicle was a rental previously, or for other reasons. Who knows what else it could be. You probably should identify where the wires go.
Just a black & red wire sounds like a ground & power connection. If the black wire was plugged into OBD2 port pin #4 or #5, and the red wire was plugged into OBD2 port pin #16, then the device was only using the OBD2 port as a power & ground source.
Is it a Calamp, and looks like the box above? Or is it something else? If you default it (Calamps work differently than the random "put a SIM in it type devices", so not likely usable) having a tracker you control is a good thing.
