Hey guys happy new years I'm Dave and i bought charger 08 3.5 high output back in October 2022 with 144k miles
car is in a good shape on the body but with a few wear and tear on suspension that is not major issue, however i do have a big issue that i have that started with the cold temperatures of the north east (NYC).

Whenever the car is cold and is driven cold (even if it got warmed up for 15 mins) at low speed the car will have a kick in or jump while driving, the only way to not experience this is to warm up the car from 45 mins to 1 hour straight, then the car will run smooth, i did recorded a video but it doesnt show much but you can be able to hear the clunking from the back while driving it.

i hope this thread can help or if it was made in the right section.

I can't really make out the noise. Have you ever changed the transmission fluid and filter? Not a flush (never do that), but just drop the fluid, change the filter, and refill.

Best,

Best,
I did changed the transmission fluid with a new filter, still persists and I thought it was the rear differential so i also changed the rear differential fluid but still the same

It is 15 years old, not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe it’s just old and cantankerous in the cold.

Dave,

Welcome to the forums from Texas. Sorry to read about the hard shifting. Do you have auto stick? Does that also snap from gear to gear when it is cold?

Sounds like you did the basic thing with a filter and fluid change so I suspect a valve body. Hopefully someone familiar with this transmission will join the discussion soon.

With the early cars, 05 300, 06 chargers up to 09 we had the canbis computer system. The programming was set up on cold conditions to get the transmission up to temp asap to get better economy and less emisions. So the computer will hold the gear changes longer and shift a little firmer. Once warm everything is back to normal. What you are experiencing is 100% normal. One thing to check is the center hanger beaaring on the driveshaft to make sure its good. To check just grab the driveshaft and try to move it, if you can move it up or to the side the hanger bearing is bad and needs replacing, that will also do what you are experiencing.

I took the car for to inspect the center hanger bearing and it was indeed bad but since the car was drove like that for a while, they had to replace the whole driveshaft and the center bearing, but it did not fixed the issue... it just became a money pit at this point.... is either the rear differential having a gear problem or the transmission

The Transmission shop i took the car for service told me they did not find any damaged to the transmission.

FWIW, my 392 with the NAG1 likes to be fussy in the cold too. It won't take 45 minutes to warm up, but I'd say 15 minutes or so depending on the driving. The gear changes definitely aren't as smooth either until everything gets warmed up. I think your car, as said, is fine.
