Which would give me the fastest 0-60 times? I don't drive fast and don't go to the race track. I just love acceleration.

Not too terribly concerned about gas mileage. I don't think 3.55 or 3.73 gears will hurt my mileage that much.

Which would be better to get to maximize 0-60 times? 3.55, 3.73 gears or a torque convertor?

Please list pros and cons of each.

Thanks!

the torque converter is only gonna help your 0-60 if you can launch at a higher rpm all the time.

basically if you want to sit at the light and powerbrake, then the torque converter, otherwise i'd say reduce your gears.

Tell em Wicked ! X2 to what the smart one above says

If you don't go to the track... and really want fast accleration in the street... than you will love the feel of the 3.55 gear. Problem is do not expect much for (street speeds) over 140 mph... cause you will not get there quickly but down a mountain... :biggrinjester:

anything quicker then 3.55, might as well just forget about first gear lol, even 3.55 is pushing it

3.23, or even the 3.06 SRT gear, plenty hole diggers they are

Getrag LSD ftw

Sweet! People don't typically run 3.73 gears? Why not? Does it make 1st gear pretty much worthless?

Here is my 2 cents on gears. I will use the comparison of the Chev trucks I was driving this spring. These had the 6.2 V8 with the 6L80E tranny and 3.42 gears. The first gear in the GM transmission is deeper than ours ( 4.02:1 versus us at 3.54:1). It's a fair comparo of a Charger with 3.73's however as the effective gear ratio works out about the same.

I didn't like them at all. First gear seemed pretty well useless. The truck would rev out quickly and shift almost seemingly too quickly into second gear. It was shifting high ( over 5000 rpm) but like I said.... quickly into second so it could fall on it's face. Now this is in a heavier pickup that also had 32" tall tires versus your what, 28" tires on a Charger. The taller tire lessens the affect moreso. I guess it is all personal preference. You will get off the line faster and blow the back tires off with ease....... but shift into second a lot sooner. I would do a convertor over anything..... it lets the car get up where it is making power right away. If you drag raced all the time I guess the deep gears might work. Then you will also go through the traps in 4th gear...... I prefer going through them in third. However the OP here doesn't race so......

That and then you are buzzing a lot higher on the highway as your overdrive is only .83:1. Personal preference. That's all it is.

Definitely Gears. It is easier on the wallet than the torque converter. You use a lot of gasoline to get to the higher stall speed. If it is for strictly racing then torque converter but if street and then some strip then gears.

Ok, you have probably never driven an LX with a convertor I am going to assume. Even with my reasonably loose convertor my car is extremely docile and easy to drive. If I threw someone the keys they wouldn't even know I have done anything to it..... until you get on it and flash it.

A convertor is not that expensive when you factor in the labor and parts to rebuild your original rear end to add gears.

Gears will be just as hard on mileage of not worse as you are loosing that low cruise rpm on the highway that you have now. These cars are strange in they make a loose convertor act a lot tighter than it should be. I have noticed zero mileage change by going with my stall.

Glad to hear it doesn't affect mileage. Maybe I should just do both :bigthumb:

I get what you are saying, and yes I have driven them with a higher stall, it is just that I personally prefer gearing over converters. It isn't like the old days, and it will be less noticable, just that the fluid clutch that is called a converter must run at higher rpms constantly.

Thanks though for the dialogue!!
