I have been searching for a 2011 Mopar edition for a long time I love the way they look and have had my heart set on it for a while. I found one with about 45k miles from a private party but recently I came a across an almost identical looking 2012 from a dealer ( no blue stripe but same wheels) with every option in the book, for much cheaper then the M11's ( about 3k cheaper) and with about 12k miles on it and it has flowmasters installed. It is also certified pre-owned so it has 3/30 and 7/100 warranty as well. What is holding me up is that I really want the 3.91 gears that the M11's have, I think it would make for some fun driving. But common sense is chiming in and saying get the 2012 its a better value and it has all the options and don't get hung up on the gears. What would you all do ?

Thanks!

PS- Why is load leveing deleted on these cars/ I saw this option on the build sheet for both I was looking at (Delete Load Leveling and Height Ctrl)

You've done your research.

There are only small differences between the M11 and the STP, the biggest being the 3.91 gear ratio. It's very fun, but can be annoying if you do a lot of freeway driving. At 65 mph your RPMs will be around 3k.

The M11 also came with front and rear strut tower braces, further improving the handling. Those are cheap additions to the STP of desired.

The M11 appearance wise is much different and unique. It will also hold its value better since it was a limited production car, as you can tell by the price.

The tech is actually much nicer in the 12, the seats are better in the 12 as well.

They're both awesome cars with the only drastic difference between the two being the gear ratio. You can swap the gears yourself if you choose the 12...it's not too expensive if you piece it together yourself. There are several threads on here with detailed lists and tips on how to save some serious cash. The 3k you save buying the 12 will take care of the gear swap and strut tower braces easily.

It all comes down to what you really want. If you have wanted an M11, go for it! Neither of the cars have hellacious amounts of miles on them.

The load leveling suspension (nivomat) is deleted in STP cars and the M11. It allows for an even sportier suspension and very firm ride. They handle very well.

Thanks for the feedback 702RN. I think I am leaning toward the 2012 , but are great cars but if the gear swap is doable that I think I will be ok with doing it later if I really feel like I want to.

No problem sir. 12k miles on a 2012 is amazingly low. My 2012 has almost 28k miles on it, and I don't feel I drive too much/far. At 12k, that car was babied. And with lower mileage in addition to the warranty it's a great buy.

The gear swap is not difficult. I've seen people on here with average mechanical know-how and a good buddy knock it out over the weekend. If you choose to have it installed by a shop you'll pay a little more, but it saves you some time and effort.

And again the tech in the 2012 is far better. If it's loaded like you say it'll have beats audio, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats/cupholders...the list goes on. The M11 doesn't have 95% of those items. The seats in the 2012 STP will be more bolstered and comfortable. The EVIC display in the 2012 is also in color, while its only in a gray-blue and white theme in the M11. I think the 2012 is a better buy. All the M11 appearance stuff is easily added to the 2012 for great prices...all of it js DIY too. I have many of the M11 appearance package stuff on my car, it was cheap and super easy to install.

sounds like a no-brainer to me. get the '12, and spend $150 for a 3rd party stripe that looks like the M11 stripe.....

I think in the end you'd prefer the 3.06's of the R&T to the 3.91's of the M11, both economy wise and comfort wise if you do any freeway driving

I agree.

Now if he was to look for an SRT...I've seen 2012 SRTs going for 30-35k range. But I'm assuming his budget isn't based on an SRT. If he was to spend that money he would be better off getting a new Scat Pack which imo is better than the pre-15 SRTs.

I'm not sure about 2DR. Typically, its an abbreviation for "two door," but that doesn't work with a Charger.:D

The 29R is basically the Road & Track package. It includes (from a 2013MY R/T) the following:

Body Colour Exterior Mirrors
Sport Mode 2
Steering Wheel Mounted Shift Control
Ventilated Front Seats
20-Inch x 8.0-Inch Aluminum Chrome-
Clad Wheels
245/45R20 BSW All Season Performance
Tires
3.06 Rear Axle Ratio
Auto Adjust in Reverse Exterior Mirrors
Driver's Auto-Dimming Exterior Mirror
Black Grille with Black Honeycomb
Exterior Mirrors with Heating Element
High Speed Engine Controller
Leather-Trimmed Bucket Seats
Power Adjustable Pedals with Memory
Power Tilt / Telescoping Steering Column
Power Heated Memory Mirrors with
Manual Fold-Away
"Heritage R/T" Badge
Memory for Radio, Driver Seat and
Mirrors
Road / Track Performance Group

Hey Guys,

Thanks to everyone for all the opinions and feedback. I'm going to go look at the 2012 on Saturday. Based on the build sheet it has everything. IS there anything I should look out for when test driving it, etc? It is a CPO car so I would imagine it would not have had body work on it or anything suspicious correct? ( I get paranoid about dealers, lol ). I haven't dealt with dealers in a while, so if you guys have any tips let me know.

I noticed that it is completely de-badged in the pictures and the dealer mentioned that it has flowmaster exhaust installed on it. I'm hoping that this is a babied car, the warranty is a huge plus on this. I do a lot of freeway so I guess the 3.06 gears will be just fine for me.

I would love to have an SRT8 but its just not in my budget at the moment.

The Dealer car has my Spidey Senses tingling. Debadged, different wheels than stock, and aftermarket exhaust. I'd be exceptionally cautious about it and get it checked out from top to bottom by a different shop than the dealer.

Personally, I'd go with the Mopar 11. Great car, limited edition, performance goodies, Katskin leather seats and reasonably low miles from a private owner (I assume they are the first owner?). It also goes like a bat-out-of hell with the 3.91 gears and is factory tuned for it with Mopar suspension tuning and cross braces.

Then again, I drive an SRT...so I'm naturally drawn to a fully tuned factory beast designed for performance and not cobbled together aftermarket by unknown expertise.

Those wheels factory color matched in Pitch Black weren't available on the STP in '12 as far as I know and only available on the M11 that way.

True, envy wheels were made for the M11.

Debadged, flowmasters, and a wheel change are all things a private owner would do. I don't see any major cause for worry. Many cars traded or sold to dealers have aftermarket changes. Do the standard stuff when buying a used car...have it checked by a trusted mechanic and grab a car fax on it to make sure it wasn't involved in a wreck. Sometimes (not always) cars that are debadged and have different items than stock are vehicles that were involved in a collision or damaged...then fixed inappropriately. I've seen cars damaged by the dealerships themselves and then fixed in a similar manner. Usually it's advertised that it has been repaired.

The most likely cause for the vehicles appearance is the previous owner. Debadging is popular, the M11 wheels are popular, and flowmasters are popular. I don't know why anyone would remove the RT heritage badges from the R&T...if you look at the sticker you pay a stupid amount of money for those! Plus it signifies the car isn't your run of the mill RT.

Take a lot of pictures and post them here. Many of us can spot inconsistencies in the vehicle just from photos. I think a car fax will definitely tell all though.

here are some pics from the dealer. Is that the stock ride height? Looks lowered to me too now that I'm all paranoid.

EDIT: Carfax is clean, but reports 2 owners , second owner only had it for 8 months.

From an ex M11 owner:

The only thing I really miss from the M11 is the gears. So yes take it into consideration just for that option.

It is a great car, the M11 turns more head than my Jazz Blue SRT.

The only complaint I had with it is the seats suck. There is 0 lateral support, same as my honda civic basically. And the stock exhaust too I guess, again sounds like my civic...

For mods, I have seen a guy who put an SRT front fashia on it, looks awesome...
