NC Traffic Laws

Now that I'm moving to a new state, I wanted to get caught up on some local traffic laws that I might know about, so as not to be caught "unaware" in my new hometown. For example, here in AZ we have the "Gore Point" Law. If you are merging on or off a highway, you can not drive across that triangle of space formed by the outside white line of the highway and inside white line of the onramp. If you are spotted by a cop, you will get a ticket and 3 points on your license, and it can not be argued.

What have you got in NC?

Also, are radar detectors legal? I've got smoked Rockblockers on my taillights (see sig). Are these legal?

All I know is that you apparantly don't need to use turn signals in NC.....

Which parts are you moving to?
How dark is your tint? NC allows no less than 35% and it gets checked every year when do your safety inspection. BTW, the safety inspection will also cost you an extra $10 because they have to check it...it's pretty retarded.!
I agree with MadC. Seems a lot of people here think turn signals and rearview mirrors were optional when they bought the car.
Just a couple of things here in NC I've noticed. In the Winston-Salem/ Greensboro/Burlington area there are alot of motorcycle cops and they hide very well. Radar detectors are ok, as far as the smoked tails....I had some on a Blazer and they wouldn't give me an inspection sticker. So I put the stock ones on to get the sticker and smoked back afterwards. Never got pulled because of them but I may have just been lucky ;)
To add to the blinker subject, I noticed a complete lack of use here as well first thing. I was told by a native that if the signal is on, it was on when they bought the car!

I usually make a point of pretending shock when these doofs stop and turn in front of me with no indication of what they are doing. I have became very good at GUESSING what they are about to do.
As far as the blinker, I am a native North Carolinian and I am in full agreement.
I don't know why but people around here don't want to announce their intentions. The only reason I can come up with to explain it is “the amount of traffic has increased faster than the social learning curve can catch up. I have noticed more signaling in the past few years.

And don’t get me started about people who ride in the left lane. That one eats me up more than not signaling.
Oh yeah slow people in the left lane is a given, also he cops are like flys on honey around here, they pulled my hubby over in my car the second day I owned it gave him a ticket for 42 in a 35.
change your tags as soon as possible because if you dont it is like a bulls eye for the cop's and the ********! there are many brands of cars that dont have turn signals and some dont have brake lights. and in south carolina there is no inspection so dont get me started about the junk on the highways from there:confused:

Get your DL changed too, I thnk that is why he gave my hubby a ticket cuz he had a MS DL

No no no NO NO NO. Dammit. I thought I was going to leave that behind when I left AZ.:knockout:
what about window tint? AZ's got this law (probably because we have so many guns) that the front window tint needs to be the lightest grade of tint possible, a cop can see through it when he pulls you over. Of course, with our 100+ degree heat and sunshine, you want the darkest tint possible. As a result, your car looks ridiculous because the back half is dark and the front half is light. That is, unless you want to have someone tint it illegaly, and then risk getting a ticket for it.

Dude, I have family in AZ, and have been there to witness the drivers there. AZ drivers are ten times worse than here in NC. They are some of the most aggressive, uncompromising I have seen. There is no such thing as "courtesy" with AZ drivers. I have never seen so many drivers try so hard NOT to let anyone merge or change into their lanes!

So, moving to NC will be an improvement on your experience with other drivers.
Good. I'm originally from the east coast, so yeah I've been fairly annoyed with Arizona's aggressive drivers, lack of lane change signals, and morons who don't realize that the left lane is for passing, not for cruising.

I thought it was 48 in a 30

Yep just checked it and you said it was 48 in a 30.

Is there anything else NC could spend their money on besides all these POS cops? They make me sick; they are everywhere and there is just as much crime as other states with fewer cops. Man fight the ticket- Some cop gave my husband a ticket the day after I bought my charger b/c he was going 48 in a 30. My hubby is used to driving a truck, not a car.

In SC its 27.5 on the front, who gives a damn for the rear. I hear NC is not a good place to be a low flying air craft....and

Don't talk about our road decorations
Radar detectors are not illegal in NC but do try to turn it off before the officer gets up to the window - damn beeping makes it hard to hear him.

After 15 years of living in NC I am of the opinion that there are two reasons for using a turn indicator:

1. The driver believes that the current lane change will result in a crash and he wants to make sure that his insurance documentation states that the turn indicator was on.

2. The Charger in the rear view mirror could be an unmarked car so he wants to point out that he is a law abiding citizen.

I found that driving through Florida, Georgia and SC in a Charger, even a Plum Crazy Daytona, is good for the ego!
