New to the forums and have a question for the experienced moders out there. I have a new 2013 R/T max with about 2800 miles on it and bought a Mopar cold air intake. The reason I bought a Mopar one vs a K/N or other was to keep the warranty intact as I also purchased a lifetime mopar warranty on the car at time of purchase. I am receiving mixed reviews from dealers and warranty company about what installing this will do to my warranty and extended warranty. Anyone ever have any issues putting a CAI on? Will this affect the warranty on the car? Thanks for any help!

Your original air filter is no longer covered under warranty.

Your Mopar CAI has the coverage it came with.

Unless your engine fails because the CAI killed it (not gonna happen) your OEM warranty is still in force.

Check Magnuson-Moss warranty act for details.

I've had mine on my car from about 2-3 months after owning the car. Never had an issue at the dealer related to it. Anyone with half a brain can tell you that there is (almost) no way that the CAI will cause your engine to blow up, as long as you install it correctly.

Yeah man these fellas have covered it. I have the mopar cai on my 2012. It has gone to the dealer for oil changes and a few installs..the mechanics and service techs love the cai and other mods I've done. No issues. The only mod that will really wreck a warranty is a tune. But just load the stock tune back on before you have it serviced..they will never know.

I appreciate all the feed back. While I am no expert I has at the same conclusion until a service manager at a local dealer kept insisting it would give me check engine lights and so on ultimately voiding my warranties. This was after though he argued with me the part number I gave him was for a Challenger only and the Mopar site was wrong. Looking back that should have given me my answer about his credibility lol. Thanks again.

I have a 08 RT with the lifetime power train warranty and the Mopar CAI. I had the transmission "turbine speed sensor" fail at 20,000 miles and it was covered no mention of the CAI. I think we are good with most dealers. After all they sell the part.

1st lesson learned. Most guys at dealerships are morons!
This is very true but these same morons have the ability to give you a VERY hard time if they want to. Any mod is going to be "your mileage may vary" with a particular dealer.

Thoughout my years I have modded most all of my cars, some light, some heavy. I have honestly had more problems with dealers covering things then not, even though they were completely unrelated to the mod. They know it will cost you more in time and money to hire a lawyer to prove thier word vs yours so like I said you are taking a chance.

1997 camaro - intake, cat back, hypertech tune, etc had some issues with dealer

2001 Acura CL type S - intake not one issue and they actually thought it was super cool

2005 Subru legacy GT - ALLLLLL kinds of issues with multiple dealers. Wound up paying close to $10k out of pocket for 2 transmissions, 2 turbos, and some other stuff that broke. Transmission went at 30k miles with just a cat back and they stood by "the cat back added HP to the car that it wasn't intended for therefore adding stress to the part causing it to break prematurely, it was not made to withstand the increased power"

You and I both know this is total BS but they forced me to hire a lawyer which I wasn't willing to do. Their regional rep even came out and affirmed this. So again I have has a lot of issues with minor mods.

Subaru even sells an aftermarket cat back under the SPT label which is really borla. so it was all total BS

sorry for rant lol

Check and make sure it didn't wiggle lose! It could be rubbing on the belt and pulleys. Simple fix.

True, didnt even think of that even though i made a mental note of the clearance space between my k&n tube and the belt/pulley right underneath it is less than an inch...

Haven't really modded my Charger yet but I never had any issues when I took my RAM in. In fact they generally complimented me on my various mods, or they asked where I got them. Never really had any drivetrain work though so hard to say whether or not they'd of given me a hard time about mods. I doubt they would've because they know I'm the type that goes griping to Dodge Corporate when things aren't done to my liking. Some little turd at my dealership tried to tell me that brake squeel was normal because of the weather and the salty roads when I complained about my brakes making noise at 15,000 miles. Needless to say, one complaint letter to Dodge and I get a phone call telling me to bring the truck in for a completely new set of front and rear brakes.

I guess it probably varies from dealership to dealership. I get the feeling mine probably wouldn't care about much of anything unless it was a tuner.

Mopar cold air and most cai cannot affect warranty, oil media like K&N can because they arent dry media

no dealer should ever declined any warranty becauce of a Mopar cold air system, Mopar cat back, etc, especially since some models come with them from the factory, ie, Mopar edition vehicles.....also in many promotions, chrysler offered 500 to 2000 in accesories which include items like cat back, cold air, shifters, etc

things that will affect warranty, force induction of any type, tuning, nitrous systems, etc

also be careful, some cheesy aftermarket service contract companies will write some exclusions in their contract, like oversize tires, if the vehicle has oversize tires whether it matters or not, they will decline warranty, and its clearly in the contract, you'll loose in court

Mopar/chrysler service contracts are not like that, also the better service contract providers arent as well, people like Warranty Solutions for example

Thanks Luke, I appreciate the info. i purchased the lifetime Chrysler warranty when I bought the car. Anyway the noise ended up being from a bad PCV valve...just bad timing on it going out lol.
