I've been thinking of upgrading to a K&N cold air intake for my charger, thoughts would be appreciated! Is it worth it, better intake out there, keep it stock?

I own the 2006 Daytona R/T edition, no complaints with the performance but wouldn't mind a little extra power. Thanks in advance!

It won't do anything power wise.

I just like that they're a little noisier.

It costs more, the recharging kit isnt free, and it takes some added time to clean, dry and reoil. It is reusable which is a good aspect if you don't damage it over the years handling it.

The better use of a reusable filter is a reusable cabin filter.

that recharging kit though lasts like 3-4 cleanings which long term money compared to replacement costs of a normal filter are about the same

I put the Mopar version on my 07 R/T not long after I bought it new. Other than sound, I didn’t notice any performance gain. Fast forward eleven years and I installed the JLT CAI on my 18 and there was a noticeable improvement in throttle response. It made my car feel like I am in Sport Mode when it’s not. Engaging Sport Mode took it to a whole new level. I doubt I gained any HP although JLT has the dyno testing that shows it does. Unfortunately, they don’t offer anything for first generation chargers. I wouldn’t hesitate to install the K&N for the look and sound. Do it.

The downside is that it will allow significantly more dirt into your engine than the stock paper filter. There is no increase in power to speak of. At best, you're looking at low single digit horsepower which will be impossible to detect with your butt dyno. That's under a 1% increase (if you see any at all). That's within the variance of output from one engine to the next off the same assembly line. I tried one on my 2006 R/T briefly just for laughs and all it did was make more noise. Food for thought.

Best,

As others have said if the goal is more power, the cold air intake won’t deliver any large gains. But if the goal is eye candy and perhaps better sound then you may find it a worthwhile investment. I went ahead with the K&N system and like it’s looks and have no regrets.

Best,
You beat me to it: just makes more noise.

If your original intake ain't broke, leave it alone.

No doubt they do look nicer, generally speaking.

I have an '06 R/T w/Performance Group, which is mechanically a Daytona but w/o the bright paint. I added a K&N CAI years ago. No improvement at low revs, and a minor improvement at high revs. They advertised a 21hp gain on a standard '06 RT (which is 10hp less than a Daytona - 340 vs 350), so I'm guessing it may have added 5-10hp at best. It's a little louder at high revs (which is fine), but also gained a bit of an engine groan at around 70-75 mph. Can't say it was definitely worth it, but I don't really regret it either.

Jlt intake is one of the best ones keep the ITA down in hot weather performance-wise they're all about the same but they claimed 12 horsepower on a dyno don't know how true that is I have a 2018 Charger Daytona 392 with jLT intake , kooks longtube headers, kooks green cats ,87mm throttle body ,Diablo unlock PCM and dynotune 480hp at the wheels 480 torque from hhp performance and in may a cam with helical lifters so numbers will be over 500 + at wheels

Got the Airaid CA for mine and have liked it. Replaced my hood with the SRT hood and got the route tube from the hood scoop to the airbox also.

I did a home made mod which did improve performance of my 2006 5.7 Daytona at speed.

I did an air pressure test too and it did improved intake pressure from about 40MPH and up.
The idea was to pipe in air from the high pressure area in front of the radiator and pipe in in through the factory hole in the bottom of the air cleaner box.
