Is it possible to lower the AWD??

i have a 2007 sxt its all wheel drive, which i love and need because of the Colorado snow... but i HATE the gap between the car and wheel..
Is it possible to lower it in a way that wont damage the car? is this possible at all?

Anything is possible.

Since it's an AWD, why lower it and lose the winter capability? Why not close the gap with larger wheels and/or tires?

I added larger tires on my previous Magnum SXT AWD to close the gap and it rode much nicer and looked a lot better. I went larger in tire diameter but kept the 60 series side wall (wider and taller on the 18" wheel).

Stock was 225/60/18 = 28.62" diameter
I changed to 255/60/18 = 30.04" diameter

That change closed the wheel gap to the fender by 3/4 inch and made the ride 100% better.

Eibach also makes lowering springs. Hardly anyone makes replacement front shocks for these cars, that's the biggest problem. The rear setup is the same as the RWD RT model. The AWD's also use the same brake pads as the RT models.

Yeah like mentioned above, bc coilovers are your best option.

If so much is the same on the rear, why are rims so hard to come by for the AWD

Because the front is very different than the RWD and you need rims on all 4 wheels. If all you want is rear rims, you can use the standard RWD offset but they won't fit on the front. The front offset for AWD will fit on the rear so you are (in essence) buying a set of 4 front offset wheels for the AWD. You can mix and match if you want to...but you won't be able to rotate the wheels and they won't look the same with the different offsets.

I found plenty of rim choices on Tire Rack for my AWD. I went with the Sport Edition KV5's, 20". Loved 'em!

Factory reproductions has some nice AWD rims. I personally love the way the stock srt8 rims looked, and you can get them with an awd offset there.

What kind of tire did you use?

I don't know what Mike was using, but I had Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires, 255/45/20 on all corners. They were GREAT on the AWD! :bigthumb:

I've heard a lot of good reports on the Continental DWS tires, too.
