If you had an engine failure such as a dropped valve seat or popped ring land...anything where metal left its intended location on the failed engine, replace that intake.

Hot metal travels in a failure and is hot enough to melt itself into the plastic intake. There is absolutely NO WAY to get that out by cleaning it. Once the intake is on the new engine and heats up, that metal can and will release itself and find its way into a cylinder and pop another engine.

There are many reman companies that will void any warranty when plastic/phenolic intakes are reused on the reman engine.

I understand all that. The engine it came off.of was not a catastrophic fail. The manifold involved in the catastrophic fail was sold to a guy who said he doesn't care and would clean it. I said more power to ya. That'll be 200.

IIRC, the oem 100k iridium plugs are backwards compatible. They came about initially for the Gen 1 Charger Pursuits because a 30k plug interval on a marked police car is ludicrous.

FWIW, Don, I bought a 2007 Daytona that had NGK 2313 Iridiums in it, with about 40k on them, and when I pulled the heads off, one of the electrodes was completely gone.

After looking into it I found plenty of posts online about problems using platinum or iridium plugs in the early cars. I don't know exactly when, but I suspect that the coil packs were updated at some point for compatibility with iridium plugs. But after that experience, I won't run anything but copper in an early pre-Eagle Hemi.

That sounds like an interesting discovery. I have to wonder if the original long life plugs may have differed from the later version put into use c2014 for the civilian cars. We heard the same information about other styles of plugs in the older 5.2/5.9/4.7 engines. I ran a platinum equivalent to the oem Champion coppers in my '01 Durango 4.7L with good results. Despite the 30k interval, the coppers will go 50k no problem. .

It was an eye-opener for sure.

From what I've read, the general consensus seems to be that it's a coil issue, but there's no real hard info out there that I can find. So I just run coppers in the pre-Eagles and iridiums in my '14.
