I just recently bought a 2012 Charger R/T that was also a former police car so it has a few different things like the battery is in the back, The shifter is behind the steering wheel instead of in the center console ect. The exhaust was custom when I bought it being fully straightpiped not even with any cats so I just recently added Cats back onto it because it was obnoxiously loud and droned so it was quite miserable inside the car (not to mention I live with an HOA) I want to increase its performance by putting a Cold Air intake and possibly a bigger throttle body but I'm unsure of what I may need to add to ensure that it still keeps as much longevity as possible (Although I'm aware that adding things that increase performance may/will also decrease longevity). So should I have it tuned, have possibly a better cat back instead of straight pipe or any other ideas to keep it in good shape while increasing performance.

Every charger made in the last 16 years has the battery in the back.

The throttle body and CAI aren't going to make any difference in output. Low single digit horsepower if you tune it, at best. The same goes for the exhaust. You may get more noise, but little actual horsepower gain.

None of the mods you mentioned should impact longevity, but it won't make the car any faster and just lightens your wallet.

Best,

Think about it....TB for the 5.7 and 6.4 are the same size. Do you really think your smaller engine will somehow pull in more air than the larger one....? [email protected] an HOA, but if you're there then you're gonna want to fix that exhaust. The tune will give it a bit more pep without affecting longevity.

Using more throttle or driving hard will reduce longevity. Some. Probably over the long term.

Certainly nitrous, a supercharger, or a performance cam will have far more impact on longevity in the short term.

Swapping the intake from a 6.4 will likely be the best mod you can do, it will give you "some" additional power.

Changing throttle response (tune or pedal commander) will make the car feel more responsive without any other changes and no actual increase in power, but see the first sentence in this post.

the cop cars are already better cuz the stiffer suspension means u can hit turns harder

u can change the rear diff. or a tune

but "longevity" and "cop car" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. check the idle hours. u can maximize it by changing fluids regularly but

Performance and longevity should not even be put together. Just because any time you go from stock to a performance mod there is a good chance you are reducing longevity. But the best mod that keeps your car in the best place is the 6.4 intake and a good tune by a reputable tuner.

That statement is not even CLOSE to being true. As long as the work is done correctly, performance mods will not hurt longevity, it's how the car is driven once the mods have been done.

An 800hp engine doesn't work nearly as hard to move the car as a 485hp engine does to move the same car.
