Hello all.

I am looking at a pre owned 2014 charger. I really like all the ones I have tried and I think I want to make the switch from my current to this charger. However, I am a little concerned about the mileage of the v6. I wanted to get an idea of what to expect in terms of mileage? What do you all get out of a tank?

I have a 2013 SE V6 with the 5 speed auto, Mopar CAI and Dynomax dual exhaust:

With the winter fuel I'm averaging about 22.5 in town, which consists of a 12 mile drive to work, with only 1 mile on the highway, the rest is pretty much stop n go.

Freeway driving I get 30-31, but I averaged 34 last summer on 91 octane fuel. It gets better mileage at 80 mph than at 75 mph.

I love this car: quick, smooth but nimble ride (really surprising for a car with this much bulk), and efficient. It is a great road trip car.

Between the wife and I, we've had about 35 different cars over the last 30 years, and this is one of my top 3. My other two were a 72 Duster 340 in my youth, and an 80 VW Sirocco in Germany.

I keep pretty good track of my fuel economy and here is what I discovered with my 2012 V6 with 8 speed, city driving with lots of stops I get 19, I found a route that eliminated all but 3 lights and the mileage jumped to over 22. On the highway I get 31+ and usually get around 33 unless I push the speed to 80+ and then I notice it hovers at 31. The best I have ever gotten on a short trip was 39.5. My last road trip went from central Florida to Tennessee and back and we averaged 32.5 for the entire trip which had a little mixed driving in TN. I have been driving 180 miles round trip for work on mostly 2 lane roads with a few lights and lots of traffic and I have been averaging 33+ with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 (of course I drive 70 in the 60)

and the mileage I get now with the 2012 over my 2006 Charger with the 3.5 the increase is substantial. My 2006 would get 17 city (only if I babied it) and 25 highway (I didn't baby it!) and the performance difference is vastly different, the 2012 is a best compared to the 2006.

In one week I will have owned my 300M for 14 years. When new, the 3.5 V6 was state of the art and one of WARDS top 10 engines several years in a row. It is still a decent engine, but the new Pentastar 3.6 is light years ahead. The 3.5 has to rev up to 3,500-4,000 rpm to start making decent power, whereas the 3.6 with the VVT has torque at almost any rpm and so it is much more fun to drive...technology can be a wonderful thing!

I usually reset the EVIC every fill up or so. My SXT with the 8 speed is sitting at an average of 22 mpg right now. When I'm doing mixed with mostly highway commuting it averages 24-25 mpg. If I've been sitting in traffic with lots of lights it can drag it down to 17-19. On a long road trip down the 5 (almost all highway) the best I've averaged is 29.

If you're going used I'd recommend looking for an SXT with the 8 speed transmission. Avoid the 5 speed with the v6 if you can!
There are a ton of SEs out there with the 8 speed, it was a very common quick order package.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the V6-5 speed combo, the 5 speed has been around for enough time that it's relatively bombproof and easy to fix.

But, these days if you see a used 2014 SE with the 5 speed, it's likely an ex-rental. All those 1 year old "Car Fax One Owner" with <30k miles are all hard rental miles so buyers beware.

Good call. I know the 5-speed is okay (I've owned one since 2007), but I would still recommend the 8 speed with the v6. From what I've read it makes a huge difference.

My 2013 SE V6-5 speed was a rental from Enterprises "long term rental" fleet in Salt Lake City Utah with 28,000 miles on it. They said these cars are usually rented for 1-2 weeks, not 1-2 days, and have a lot of highway miles (28K in the 11 months they had it is a lot of highway miles). It came with a 1 yr/12K warranty plus Mopars 5 yr/100K powertrain warranty, so I was not worried about it.

I've had it for 1 year and it now has 44K. The only problem has been the recalled alternator. The engine uses zero oil between changes (every 6K), trans shifts beautifully, and the tires still have 1/2 the tread left. Not all rental cars are bad !:smile2:

Not at all. A friend bought a Neon that had been a rental in its former life and he drove it to all over the place. When things finally started failing, it was due to age/mileage, not having been used as a rental car.
