I have an 06 charger with factory speakers and stereo unit. I am looking to get a pioneer avh x2800bs double din system. I know I have to get a double din bezel, but they also say I should get the wire harness to bypass the factory amplifier. Do I really need those? Anybody else done something like this? Help is appreciated. Thank you

I just installed a aftermarket headunit a week and a half ago in my 06 SRT8. It replaced my factory REC unit. Below are the parts of the install kit from crutchfield.

Metra 40-CR10 Antenna Adapter
Metra 99-6510 Dash Kit
Metra ISOPK Screw Pack
PAC RP4-CH11 Wiring Interface

You may need a different dash kit if you currently do not have the factory double din radio bezel.

Using the above I kept the steering wheel controls, factory amp and factory sub.

I know it was an older post but since the radio supported it I would have gone with the Idatalink Maestro.

Had to look that up being I've never heard of it. What does it do different than the PAC? Looks like the prices are nearly the same. Is it just a preference thing?
I haven't personally installed one yet but it claims to keep fade control that others don't, there are also other features that will work with the Kenwood and Alpine units that allow gauges to be displayed on the head unit.
Sadly none of the adapters seem to work correctly with uconnect.
There is probably other stuff that I am forgetting that you would have to check their website for.

Yep, noticed that too. I went with a lower level Jensen VX7020 so I don't think that harness would have done me any good. It seems to be recommended with the head units you mentioned.

I didn't want to spend more than $400 total on installation + parts replacing my factory unit though. Think I got everything for around $350 and installed it myself. Actually $370 since I just ordered a backup camera that I'll install when it arrives. I had to run the wire for the mic and placed eh GPS antenna under the dash. I'm satisfied with my setup so far.

The Jensen VX7020 is a decent setup I just installed it in my girls car. I have a Pioneer avic z120bt in my 2010 charger amazing unit for its age but after a few mods and updates its on par with the avic z140/150.

Depending on which unit you go with you may need to do a little chopping modification in the dash. I had to remove a good section of support plastic to get my z120 to fit nice and properly.

anyone know if it's possible to add steering wheel controls to an aftermarket 2007 charger that didn't come with it from the factory? Will i still need the evic cluster and programming from the dealer, or can i just install the switches and harness then connect to a PAC SWI can adapter and be good?

go to Crutchfield and use their configurator.
If it doesn't give you your answer, then call and ask their techs.

Depends greatly on what aftermarket HU you are installing. The RP4ch11 is intended for use, so you wont have to bother with wiring match (almost)
The AMP is controlled via canbus, which is built into the RP, it just turns it on essentially, but without fading capability. The SUB is connected to the amp, so when amp works, the sub works :)

cheers
