On last thing to remember after downgrading and installing new maps. Time.... It can appear as tho Nav screen is caught in a software re-boot loop. It's not, I've waited almost a 1/2 before. Like a computer that's messed up, screen can even move from side to side like it's stuck. "Software loading" can appear and reappear also. Process again: Downgrade to 4.08 10min. Map update with the 2 files unlocked, 2 hours. New maps trying to load, 20 to 45 minutes.

Yes, following the instructions in this thread, you should be able to downgrade your firmware!

The "Can't Unlock Maps" error is usually because the two files listed in the other thread were NOT unlocked before you tried updating the map.

You will want to unlock those files, then try updating the map again!

Great sure i will do that i will downgrade my CTP 17 version to CTP 13 first as per your advise.

ohh i see. i want to unlock those but i dont have the right Map .. if any one could share their garmin files for Middle East that will be a great help!!

We really have to be patient as systems are not very fast, along with the size of the maps.
The first time my battery drained and had to call a tow truck for a boost!:laugh2:

Hello:

I've decided to downgrade again, this time on a 2016 Dodge Journey I own now vs the 2014 a few months back.
I had already upgraded to the 2019.20 before on this one.
Accepted the pen, did the downgrade, but gave the 0x 31A0.
Now is stuck on the loading screen.
Any hopes?

I've lost hope on mine.. always reloading and nothing!
Try to downgrade or upgrade and I get the 0x 31A0 error

User Data Copy Failed. (Garmin)

Its been a while since I upgraded my maps. Was going to do today. Following instructions to downgrade firmware to CTP13. First, trying to do a backup, because one time a while ago when I didn't bother, after the downgrade, map update and then the restore of the latest firmware, my favorite locations were gone.

Every time it try to do the backup, I get, User Data Copy Failed. (Garmin). I've tried different flash drives, reformatting them (Fat32). Even tried formatting them on an old Win 7 PC. (I looked at the flash drive after the data copy process failed and there is some kind of backup there, but, when I tried testing the files validity by attempting a restore, the restore operation failed too.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for the perfect manual! I would like to put my 2 cents to it.

If you could move "As mentioned above, the time needed to complete the install will be about 15 minutes." in the text to after "Once the process starts, you can either remain in your vehicle and wait, or go for a drive if you need to!"

The whole process is not only "Please wait Navigation System recover is in a progress..." (at this stage gupdate.gcd file just copying from USB to the vehicle internal memory), but also longer "SOFTWARE LOADING.." or "Loading, please wait..." (at this stage Navigation software actually installing). If you try to Restore User Data too early, highly likely restore failed. If you try to start another update (for example maps) before completion of the "loading", the result will be 0x31A0 error. During "software loading" navigation, GPS time synchronization and compass not working - just WAIT.

If your screen turned to a blue theme after an upgrade it is ok. It is the Dodge factory default colour scheme for the 1st boot. On the next reboot colours will be restored.

It is safe to do downgrade from CTP14,15,16,17 to CTP 13 and upgrade back to any of them (tested).

Parameters of the proper CTP13 4.08 file:

File name: \Garmin\gupdate.gcd
File size: 62692490 bytes
MD5: eb39c3c4bbeb9f0883bf62399b65d558
SHA1: a5a5dda9c3dd990dab2395c1a76294286ce73eb3

This explains the process necessary to downgrade your CTP Firmware from either CTP15 or CTP14, to the recommended CTP13.

CTP13 firmware is needed so you can update your maps yourself on your UConnect system.

* WARNING - IT IS POSSIBLE TO "BRICK" YOUR UCONNECT SYSTEM, SO IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING THIS, THEN DO NOT PROCEED

Time Needed: ~15 minutes

--------------------------------------------------
Getting Started - What you will need:

(1) CTP13 4.08 Firmware (gupdate.gcd)
(2) 2 Clean USB Flash Drives

--------------------------------------------------

On 1 of the clean USB flash drives, create a folder named "Garmin"

Copy the CTP13 firmware file (gupdate.ucd) into the Garmin folder on the flash drive.

Remove the flash drive from your computer, and head out to your vehicle.

As mentioned above, the time needed to complete the install will be about 15 minutes. You can either do this while sitting and waiting for it to complete, or you can do it while driving.

(If you want to do this while driving, make sure to get the process started BEFORE moving your vehicle)

If you are going to just sit in the car and do this, turn the vehicle on in ACC mode (push the start button with your foot OFF the brake).

If you are going to drive the vehicle, go ahead and start the vehicle.

You will now need to go into DEALER MODE by following these directions:

Hold down the following buttons ALL AT ONCE for a couple of seconds:

drivers side up temperature
driver's side down temperature
front defrost!

You should now see the following screen:

Before you start the downgrade, you will want to back up your user data.

[/ALINTI]
Talimatları aynen takip ettim, sonuç harika
teşekkür ederim

Before you start the downgrade, you will want to back up your user data.

Select "COPY USER DATA" and follow the instructions. It should ask you to insert your clean usb.

Once it finishes copying the user data, you can now begin the downgrade!

Click on the arrow next to "GARMIN RECOVERY UPDATE" and you will see this pop up:

Go ahead and insert your flash drive that has the CTP13 firmware on it and follow the instructions!

Once the process starts, you can either remain in your vehicle and wait, or go for a drive if you need to!

After that is complete you can now "RESTORE USER DATA"

Once that process has completed, you would now be able to start your map upgrade process described here:

HOW TO: Map Update on Uconnect CTP13+ (2013 - 2014)
Thank you!
Successfully downgraded CTP17 to CTP13.

I just leave mine at CTP13
Yeah, this is probably the best idea!

The more you flash it, the higher chance you have of it bricking and not going well!

I would just keep it at CTP13!

I know it’s not charger related, but I have a MY14 Journey and was using these directions to go right to the latest maps. The Journey had the "cannot unlock maps" issue. I even updated to CTP17 to see if that would help before finding steps on the journey forums on how to fix it. someone pointed to these steps also.

After hours of trying, I gave up and rolled back the radio to CTP13 and took my Nuvi and copied the maps to a large memory stick and was successful with loading the 2018 maps. (using the gimgunlock) I have not updated back to CTP17 yet, and not 100% sure I need to at this point. I had to follow the second set of directions also as I keep erroring out and had to copy some of the files to the DISABLE folder. It was a very very painful process (took forever), but I do have a working NAV again!

The issues I was seeing with these directions were the following :

Keep trying to load, but would come up saying

"The map update provided is not compatible with your navigation system"

"Current map : None"
"Update map : whatever I had selected"

I tried just the "Maryland" area at one point and it said "Update map : Maryland" I tried selecting everything it and listed out "MONTREAL, QUEBEC,TORONTO, ONTARIO, LONDON,ONTARI"

thanks all!

I am in canada, got my map issue resolved last night. Had copied the gmapprom.img from my nuvi which was a much bigger file and other files from net download. Seems there was some mismatch so I simply added the gmapsupp.img from net download and gmapprom.img from nuvi into garmin folder as both files are for 2020.30 NT maps and finally the detail map issues was resolved and now I see the maps as per the attached picture.

Great, glad to hear you were able to get it resolved!

Hi, I downloaded the version ctp17 to ctp13 and updated the maps. Everything went smoothly and thanks for the nice topic. I want to ask if anyone has managed to change the voice of the navigation and where they are added. What is the structure of folders that the device expects. Also wondering about the second row screen can only DVDs read? What video formats does it read, can't it read from a flash drive? I tried formats mp4, mkv, avi, but without success.
The car is Fiat freemont 2016 year.
Thanks!

I performed the procedure on my 13 Charger today so that I could update the maps. Got the firmware, flashed it successfully, or so I thought. System came back up and is just sitting on the load screen. I've had it sitting there in excess of 30 minutes and no change. I'm a little worried that it ended up bricked. Is that the case or do I need to let it sit longer? Thanks!!

Time and patience is the key. Let car sleep for 10 minutes before putting back in run state. I've watched a few take 30 minutes or more before finally loading. Do this 3 or 4 times if needed. Once it does load it will work as normal.
If that doesn't work I have a Garmin file for you I use for unbricking. gupdate.gcd (9,107kb)
